Hi i had months with my ODD not working properly and i was wondering if i can just buy one and placing it myself instead of claiming warranty (US)

    Is this a good Idea?

What ODD model can i buy (for example one from newegg)?

if I do so, am i getting my warranty void in the rest of the system?

Or is the best to claim my warranty (that scares me a bit since i`ve been reading all those threads about getting systems worse than they where before RMA)

Im kinda afraid because if something goes bad i wont be able to buy a new system in a while =(

By the way, my G1 is the original model (t7200, go7700)

    Thx

In US service is good, so I think you can send your notebook for an ODD replacement. You can also call and try to arrange to have the ODD shipped to you, after which you send the defective unit back. It's a matter of one or two screws.

They are both better options than paying for a replacement yourself. But getting to that, I think you can find a pretty standard replacement, and no it won't void the warranty. Just keep the old one around, just in case.

I had a problem with my G2S B2 a few days after it arrived. ASUS-USA repaired it and had it back in a week. I've had no prpoblems with it since and it is even more stable than it was. I really had a great experience with the USA service and if your system is still under warranty, I say go for it. YMMV
