I just got my G50VT-X6 yesterday. However, I am really cautious about using it. I use a Zalman cooler everytime I use the laptop. Let say I game on it 3-6 hours a day (maybe more because of school work). How long would it be until the death of my laptop?

I'm tempted to say "The day after the warranty expires" - not as a slam to Asus, but just because that seems to be the case.... :)

Truthfully, though, 3-6 hours of heavy load a day; I am NOT AN EXPERT (not even close!), but I'm guessing that may be heavier use than many users experience - still, should be at least two to three years I would think, if you keep it clean and take good care of it...

If you treat it nicely it will last you for quite some time.

With proper maintenance, 2-4 years wouldn't be too difficult to reach. Within that time period, you'll probably need to replace your battery, but other than that, the other components should last a while.

I just hope it's at least 2 years because that's when my Engineering course is over. After that, I'll make tons of money and build the fastest computer ever haha.

While the general quality of ASUS laptops has somewhat decreased over the last few years, there are no complaints about the build quality of the G50 models. Also the computer runs rather cool, so in all, you can expect reasonable reliability.

Do clean up the fan and radiator once in a while, though. That is perhaps the most essential piece of maintenance that has to be performed on a laptop.

Oh, I have also bought a G50Vt-X3, I will have to use it for 4.5-5 years, maybe too long. But I don't have a chance to buy a new laptop until I finish my university (I'm in high school). I will also apply for an Engineering course, and when graduated, I will have money to buy a new lappy. I hope these G50s have extreme durability.

See my message above, and also on your related topic http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=362795...

I'm afraid in order to be reasonably sure that a laptop will last 4.5 to 5 years, you need to move to the business-class laptops... (think Thinkpad... no pun intended)

Take REALLY good care of it, then - be careful about heat, keep it clean, watch out for dust/dirt/cathair/etc in the environment it's used in. I've read that laptop coolers can prolong life by lowering the heat, but I don't know this to be a fact - and, depending on your situation as a student, you may not have the spare cash to spring for one. (I know when I was a student it took every cent I had to buy the computer, I didn't have anything left over for accessories... :) )

At any rate, I don't think I've every had a laptop go for 5 years without some issue - but I do have one that still at least runs (although not very well) and is about 6 years old, so I imagine it could be done. I would think part of it depends on use, too, and I'm guessing as a student you're going to use this thing quite a bit...

apart from rediculously cheap/low quality plastics/hinges, my a8jp has been on full load (both CPU and GPU) for about 16+ hours a day for 2.5 years now.

the G1s however.... just LOL, good plastics, HORRIBLE internals.

Unfortunately, faulty hardware might have come to play in your case. I've had my G50 for well over 4 weeks and never had any series issues with the line-out jack nor the OLED screen.

Burn-in occurs are areas of a screen that does not change for a long period of time.

It's still too early to tell since the N50 series are relatively new. However, so far, there hasn't been any serious issues with these particular systems.
