Can anyone suggest me a good build of asus computer thats reliable with the below specs?

    8600gt 512mb or better
    15inch WSXGA or 17 WUXGA
Core 2 Duo 7300 and up
    2gb of fast memory

And just a overall good build quality that can last me through college. And any sites that i can buy the computer through with maybe a discount for student?

    I'd say the V1S-A1

The G1S/G2S are a bit better (GDDR3 1400 8600MGT) but their flashy colour led will make everyone starring at you

The V1S has a really good look and is the same price as the G1S I think. But it comes with Vista business rather than Home Prenium so it does not have Windows Media Center

The V1S-A1 is very well made. It's Asus dude!

But it's not released yet. 1-3 weeks from now

    Gentech

    It's $1850 and Free Shipping

The G1S is $1805 but remember, it has green LED lights on the sides so if it's for school, people might look at you.

If you don't mind a low battery life (1:15, but you can buy them for $75 on excaliberPC) there is the C90S. It uses a DEsktop C2D so it is really better than the mobile one. The Graphcis card is the 8600M GT 512MB DDR2 like the V1S but there will be upgrades in the future. About $1660 with Windows, 160GB HDD, 2GB RAM, 3 years extended warranty

You can pre-order the V1s here from Eddie from btotech.com for only $1779 with free ground shipping. That is $120 off MSRP.

Yes Asus is a very reliable brand. The V1s build quality should be very good since it is a business notebook. Here are the specs for it.
