ReadyBoost is a Vista feature that significantly accelerates bootup and system performance overall, esp. during periods of heavy HDD use (such as gaming). ReadyBoost uses up to 4 GB of flash memory to create paging files.
Q: How much of a speed increase are we talking about?
A: Well, that depends. On average, a RANDOM 4K read from flash is about 10x faster than from HDD. Now, how does that translate to end-user perf? Under memory pressure and heavy disk activity, the system is much more responsive; on a 4GB machine with few applications running, the ReadyBoost effect is much less noticable.

To install ReadyBoost, insert an up to a 4 GB SD card into the memcard port, and select "improve system performance" on the popup screen (bottom selection). You then select how much of the flash memory device capacity to dedicate to ReadyBoost. The ReadyBoost files are backed up on HD, so if you accidently remove the flash device, Vista fails-over to the backup files on HD.
A USB drive could be used.... but with an SD card, the memcard stays in the port instead of protruding from the back. My 4GB SDHC is 150x speed. The minimum is 133x.... but that is marginal. Use a 150x.
Edit: The WEI score with ReadyBoost didn't change from 4.8, but boot time is noticeably faster.

g1s will also take a standard robson itm with a minor mod.

www.grantgibson.co.uk/misc/readyboost/ This is an awesome website that has a listing of which devices do and don't work. Hope this helps.

ReadyBoost is essentially the same as Robson (aka Intel Turbo Memory).

the technology is similar however readyboost takes advantage of usb dongles while readydrive specifically uses the robson chip. So far test are inconclusive
