I am new to the forum and have been reviewing threads to see if they throw light on my problem. I have a new A7JC with an ATI Mobility RadeonX1600 card (I appear to have driver 6.14). The notebook has Power4Gear (P4G). I am experiencing random reboots and have read various exchanges where this has been expeienced by many when on battery power but I am finding this when on the 'mains'. I have heard that P4G can cause this as it may conflict with Windows own power management but am reluctant to uninstall it as presumably Asus think it has a purpose. Also I assume P4G only comes into play on battery, although an impressive sticker on my laptop tells me that it 'intelligently adapts CPU speed according to system load....' Any thoughts?

Well this problem has been vastly evident in the W3J, and from my understanding it is PowerPlay that causes this not P4G ;).

Here's the solution that worked for almost everyone.

Uninstall Catalyst 6.14 and install 6.8, the reason is that 6.8 seems to be a lot more stable, and most W3J owners don't have the reboot problem once they use these drivers. Also the performance using these drivers are quite good aswell.

As ever things are not as straightforward as I thought! I seem to have a number of drivers for my X1600. There is a Driver Packaging Version 8.242 and then three, 2D driver, Direct 3D version and a OpenGL version, all of which are 6.14.10xxxxx, with different numbers. Sorry to be dim but where do I find these drivers on my laptop(cannot immediately see them in my ATI folder) and will the 'new' driver package 6.8 (which I have managed to find!) install all of these 3??
