    Just a quick question, I own an ASUS Z71V. I have a 65W (honestly - I make this assumption, I'm not even sure about whether its a 65W, it's not with me this weekend - doh; and I'm in need of one at the moment as well) AC Adapter right now, I'm looking to purchase a second one for convenience since I travel quite a bit to work and school, etc. I noticed there are three available AC Adapters that bundle with ASUS laptops: 90W, 120W and 65W.

    Would there be any benefit to have a higher wattage AC adapter - would it be compatible?

    Thanks for your time. :)

    Actually... there are some more........ 55w / 65w / 90w / 120w.... the 55w was really for the first generation S5n/M5n...... 65w was for basically all other banias and dothan models including what you've got..... and 90w was for all systems basically with 128mb graphics cards or higher and basically all core duo and core 2 duo models (with the exception of a few).... 120w was only ever used on the L5 and A4 (Z81sp).....

    You need to get exactly what you have... the benefit from getting something with higher specs could be a burned out motherboard ;) . You don't HAVE to get what Asus puts on, but you need the same output..... What Asus has is usually a bit light than what you may find something similiar for at an electronics store.

    My favorite aftermarket AC adapter is made by iGo. I've got three. ( http://www.igo.com) Their Juice 70 would be a perfect fit for your laptop. It includes an Auto/Air outlet cord, but you may need to buy an addon tip which works with your laptop. You can also get a dongle which can be used to simultaneously charge something else, like a cellphone.

    Would there be any benefit? No. Would it be compatible, or would it work? Yes. You just need to make sure that the output voltage of the adaptor is rated to what your laptop needs to draw in, 19v. All of the current Asus laptop specs I looked at, (65w like the A8Jm, and 90w like the A8Js), all need 19v input. Hence you can assume that all current Asus 65w, and 90w AC adapters are rated to provide 19v output. Like this one;

    Which means you can get an Asus 90w power supply, and it will work fine.
