Anyone knows how to stop Power4Gear eXtreme from opening the Vista Sidebar?

Every time I switch to Battery Saving mode (plugged in or on battery) and go back to High Performance, Entertainment or Office, the Vista Sidebar pops up on my desktop.

I don't like the Sidebar so I turned it off on my first boot but going from Battery Saving mode always checks the "Start Sidebar when Windows starts" option on the Windows Sidebar Properties. Weird thing is that Windows don't recognize the checked option because the Sidebar is gone if I reboot the system even if I left it checked and the Sidebar running.

It's getting really annoying. I switch quite often from Battery Saving to High Performance and the %@#& thing appears over my shortcut icons...

I didn't had that problem before doing a clean Vista install. Funny thing is that with the factory Vista installation if I went to the Battery Saving mode the Sidebar would disappear and won't come back until I did a reboot.

    Any help is really appreciated.

If nobody else has had this problem, and it isn't a bug with p4g, it sounds like you may have some corruption going on with Windows itself. Try running a disk check (start -> run-> chkdsk /f c: and type y at the prompt, hit enter, and reboot). Then try a system file check after chkdsk completes, start->run-> sfc.exe /scannow

You will need your restore disc handy for sfc to work (I think, unless you have a copy of the installation media on hard disk, I don't have the stock vista install on my G50V so I can't say).

Thanks for your help. I'll try that.

I just did a clean Vista install with the Asus recovery DVDs yesterday in the morning. Installed right away the drivers DVD and P4G started to act like that. It's been like that for the whole day.

If the disk and system file checks fail, I'll try reinstalling P4G. If everything fails I guess I'll have to do a System Recovery from the DVDs again.

Weird, maybe it's a bug. I haven't used vista on my G50V, so I can't test it out for ya.

The disk and file system checks failed to fix the problem (they went fine) so I ended doing a System Recovery from the Asus DVDs and that fixed the problem.

It's really weird because the only different thing I did this time was that I didn't turned off "User Account Control". On the previous system restore (the one where I had the P4G and Sidebar problems) I did turned off "UAC" right before I installed the Asus drivers DVD. I don't know how that could affect P4G but now the problems are gone. P4G is working fine, as it did when I first got this notebook.

    Thanks for your help.
