Hey, I was just wondering if its possible to save money on the purchase of a W3J by configuring the ensemble to not include certain parts. For example, I already own a 160 GB seagate momentus 5400.3. I also own 2 1 GB corsair sticks of ram. Really want to get a W3J configured to not include a HHD and memory, which should significanlty drop its purchase price. Anyone know which reseller will do this? ;)

You'll instantly void Asus' warranty...... if the cost savings is worth it, then it's worth it.

Thats true asus waranty will be voide. However in the config page the dealer should link back to their own warranty and state that they are taking over the warranty for asus by customizing

O jeez I totally forgot about the stupid warranty being void. But I suppose if a reseller has their own warranty like most of them do anyway, it shouldnt matter too much. Thanx for the replies!

Be sure to talk with the reseller you purchase from ahead of time, to clarify the details of what they will, and won't, cover after you install your own parts.

btotech lets you customize the hard drive memory..and some other things, and the cpu (with written consent) !! so if you didn't want to wait for merom you could get it from there and upgrade your own parts and then later when merom is cheaper call bto and get their consent and upgrade the processor as well!

    (thats why im doing anyways)

Well, you know.. it actually does matter.

If you are not going with Asus warranty, then you should really be careful to choose a reseller with good reputation.

Well Cyber6, when I said it wouldnt matter too much, I meant it wouldnt as long as I chose a reputable reseller such as Milestonepc or Geared2play. These guys seem to have outstanding customer service, and will cover the warranty if you choose to alter certain parts. Obviously, lesser known resellers would be more of a gamble
