Can't find it and the manual has a weird typo on this (RAM compartment and battery latch listed with same # next to a diagram)...would somebody please enlighten me as to where it is?

    Many thanks!

No, the new model is a little different on the underside..... basically if you take off some panels, you'll find the ram slot on the bottom... don't be afraid to explore there. For the ram on the other side... it's under the keyboard and that's easy to get off too. Instead of trying to explain it here, if you need help you can ask me or call Asus.

Could someone explain in a bit more detail, I have looked around the buttons mentioned Ecs F8 & Del, I can't see any "obvious" latch?

Do you rip the keys off?? or slot something down between the kayboard and surround above the mentioned keys? to pop the latch? I also have a set of precision screwdrivers but I dont want to go poking around and damage anything.

I cant say for sure with the w3j, but with the w3v and z63a once you get the bottom scews off. There is not real latch on the keyboard i just stick a small screw driver in the hole above the keyboard and just pry it up and it pops out. IM guessing its the same just pry slighty you will feel it come off pretty easy no need to use force.

    Got it! thanks SRD!!

there is actually 4 along the top and two on the sides, not really latches but more flaps that stick out of the keyborad surround and hold the keyboard down, they are in a clockwise direction.

    Above:
    F1, (between F5 & F6), F10 & Ins

and two in the side beside Caps Lock and PgDn.

The ones along to top bend in when pressed (toward the screen) and the ones on the side are small, you just wiggle it!.

    Check out the pic.

Glad to help, would be good to take some in better light, I got a new Sony T9 so still playing with it.

I replaced the RAM underneath as well, so thought I might as well take a picture.

I flipped the HDD over to check it as well, it a Fujitsu, the funny thing is, that the security seal over my processor is not even stuck down! it only just stuck on, check out the picture, byt the middle of the HDD! maybe I can switch the processor without being caught!!!! he he he :D

The upgrade went without a hitch thanks to the help here -- now humming along with 2 GB of RAM -- thanks again, folks!
