    Asus G1S.

    Nvidia Drivers: 7.15.11.6344

Using Windows Media Center or Windows Media Player.

Movie DVD sound plays, but no picture (black background).

    Ideas?

    Thanks!

Usually has to do with Codecs. Make sure you install the DVD software that came with the notebook (usually winDVD, powerDVD or something similar)

yeah that happens to me a lot of time and i Know its not a codec problem because it works before....for me, everytime I reinstall windows, it'll work again, since it always happend whenever I reinstall windows,,so I'll just reinstall it again...a pretty stupid method but it works for me...maybe a codec problem for you...since WMP sucks with a lot of format

It's funny because I have two computers (the Asus G1S and a desktop).

On the desktop the DVD played fine.

Both the G1S and desktop are running Vista.

    Weird!

I also suggest trying different software, e.g. VLC.

    Update:

I fixed it by re-installing the Nvidia Graphic Drivers (the 138's) from the Asus Website.

Before I was using the latest drivers from Laptop2video.

I hope Asus releases more current drivers soon as their current set is several months out of date.

I wouldn't hold my breath. Being up to date with video drivers is not their strong point :)

    To all of you;

That has to do with something called Video Overlay....it's driver related and it's buggy... depends on the driver, i have that problem to and to solve it, almost everytime i want to see a DVD ( im using latest nvidia drivers from laptopv2g) i go to Nvidia control panel, go to where it says to change video colors, and play with the values to be able to push the apply button.....if it doesn't work i change the color temperature, and apply..

playing with these values and applying solves it to me...but it sure seems buggy...Hoping to get an update driver from ASUS also, we are taking about Nvidia 8 series right?

    cheers
