Just wondering if any A8Jm owners (or anyone else with a go7600) has tried to overclock it. I would like to try it out but I am paranoid about hurting my brand new comp. Right now I can play oblivion on high settings but framerates aren't great ( <10 outside). I would like to see if overclocking could improve this.

    Thanks.

OC can give you about 10-15% increase in performance so if you have now <10 in Oblivion than after OCing you will have <10+15%*10=11,5. You should try to tweak *.ini in Oblivion folder. That will give you much better results.

Dont forget that o/c your gpu in a laptop is a very dangerous option, the thermals are already pushed due to the tight space reaquirements...push too far and you risk permently damaging your gpu. I believe that this happend to another user just a few days ago.
Like mastha212 said try tweaks first its much safer....or better yet just drop one or two of the eye candy options!

Actually with decent video cards, the CPU starts to play a big role in Oblivion performance. I can notice a tangible performance difference outside when I have my X2 3800+ overclocked to 2.5GHz. The average FPS probably doesn't increase much, but the minimum FPS is boosted quite a bit and really helps smooth things out. A game like Oblivion 'feels' fine anywhere from 25-30FPS but when you drop down to 15-20FPS, it really starts to choke. That increase in minimum frame rates is really helpful.

What utility do you recommend for overclocking CPU?

Also is there a way to check for artifacts during CPU overclocking?

I recommend Clockgen by the same company that makes CPU-z. No way to check artifacts for pc that I know of, however runnin memtest86 will test the overclock stability.

For GF Go I would recommend Riva Tuner, IMO the best program for nVidia's chips for OCing. It's really easy to use, and works very well with GF's. Also when you put core/mems clocks to high it just doesn't accept this settings so it's quite safe.
