    Overclocking Nvidia Pascal GTX 1050 1060 1070 1080 on a Laptop

    This is a recount of my experience overclocking my GTX 1070 on my Asus GL502VS but apply for mostly all Nvidia Pascals on a laptop.

    Pascal introduced the GPU Boost 3.0 that actually overclock your card automatically depending on thermal, overload or power consumption but mostly all the time it work properly in a Destop environments where the thermal constraints are not always the cap source.

    In a laptop mostly 90-95% the thermal constraints will limit and cap the frequencies of the GPU. So this was may experience:

    1. My GTX 1070 with default values work on frequency ranges on overload from 1700 to 1911Mhz
    2. 1911Mhz just be apply for few seconds at the start due temps are lower at the start until start to settle down so the benefits of hitting 1911Mhz for few seconds are not noticeable on the long run due the constraints of GPU temps in a long term applications for example gaming environments
    3. My max GPU temps are around 78-79 in full overload, long term and settle down enviroments
    4. So I tried to overclock using two approaches the first one the old/normal one thats is applying a determined offset to the GPU frequency it work for a while but in the long run present to much frequencies oscillating so the benefits are minimal, so I decided the second approach is using the curve frequency/voltage editor and try to find the maximum frequency on each designated voltage point is a long process but it make sense to understand perfectly your GPU card at the after finding the proper curve it work more efficiently than the first approach but on the long term presented the same constraints of my fist approach due thermal constraints on a laptop
    5. So I decided to find the sweet spot between frequency and voltage that give me on the long run 0% of frequencies oscillation on a overload long term environment this has been tested on extreme graphics overloads for example prolonged game sessions (+3hrs), CAD and image processing, etc and give the BEST result in the long term specially speaking about speed, thermal constraints and efficiency
    6. So for my example of GTX 1070 my sweet spot is 1860Mhz at 850mv with stable temp of 72 on extreme long term process with 0% of frequencies oscillation on a period of +3hrs (this is a +257 MHz offset from the default frequency/voltage on my card

    Conclusions:

    GPU Boost 3.0 is something nice but with a lot of limitations on long term overloads environments on mobile decices in this case a laptop, desktop is another history and it work property specially on water cool rigs

    It is on my believe that on a laptop environment still finding the sweet spot of a frequency/voltage is a better approach

    Have fun and is amazing the results of this new Nvidia GPU
