    Hi.
I have been trying for hours to overclock my 8600m GS, with no success.

I have tried Ntune as well as riva turner. Everytime i try to apply a new clock speed it just reverts back to the default 500/400.
Rivaturner's hardware monitor is just showing of a core clock of 1080 and memclock of 399.60. (shouldn't it say around 800 given that this is ddr2)

It is driver related or hardware related.
I am running 162.18 XP drivers.

Also i have heard that is is possible to unlock some of the pixel pipelines on this card, but again i can't seem to get any joy from Rivaturner.

    Can anyone offer assistance.

Isn't the 8600GS supposed to be running at 600/1400?

    I don't think so.
If it is then i am way way underclocked for some reason.

Besides i always get confussed with this whole clock speed thing anyway.

According to nvidia it has GDDR3 1400.

But you say it's a DDR2 one? That means reseller made the 8600GS RAM crippled like the GT :(

And yeah, if it writes 400, it's 800

DDR stands for Double Data Rate

Yeah, its a known issue with the F3SV. Asus decided to really knock down your 8600GS. Your card is running at 400 mhz. Its not a fully powered 8600GS and it cannot be clocked as high as a 8600GS should be able to go. See this thread for a little discussion on the issue.

Thanks guys, but my problem is not so much that Asus only supplied DDR2 ram it is that i can't overclock the card at all, it just keeps reverting back to 500/400

I have just put on the new drivers 163.44.
Now Riviaturner's monitor is showing the 799.2 which is right.
However get this, when i ran 3dmark06 and let the monitor run in the back ground it had actually indicated that the ram had clocked down to 400mhz.
As soon as 3dmark finished it went back up to 799.2.

This is driving me insane. Can anyone shed any light on this issue.

***UPDATE- I just turned off the powermizer in Nvida control pannel and straight away the memory clock in Riva Turner dropped back to 399.8. WTF..

omg this is really bad....no wonder the f3sv was so cheap. I managed to get GRAW2 to work but its really laggy so im goin to stick with BF2. Whats the best driver right now for the f3v tho? what are the best oc numbers for this guy? geez now i kinda shoud have gotten the g1s instead....still saved 400 bucks 400 bucks tho!

I have just tried 101.09 and have been able to overclock the card again.
I wonder why the newer versions won't allow it.

I overclocked it with the newest drivers from asus. I was able to overclock as high as 750/570, i didnt run any tests with it at those clocks tho. However, at 660/560, i got 3150 on 3dmark06. I have the f3sv too, i was under the impression it was gddr3.

With the 163.44 drivers, it doesnt let me overclock at all. Dunno why.

    Not bad.

I wish someone could shed some light on why some drivers will allow you to overclock you card and others don't.

I actually got about 2750 with 3dmark06 on stock speeds 500/400 but i can't remember what drivers i was using . I have loaded so many in last week. The one i am currently using only gives me about 2250. Which is a big difference.

I can help you guys overclock by laptop bios like i did with the g1s but i need some data from rivatuner and you need a old driver THAT overclock. I know that rivatunner shows the wrong real clocks but i need them.

Leave the gpu at stock clocks and post the riva tunner hardware monitoring clocks . gpu - shaders and memory. Then tell me what it your desired overclock (e.g. gpu @ 560 + RIVATUNNER SHADER with gpu @560 + mem ) and i'll send the modded bios.

Then just use : start - run : ""winphlash folder"" winphlash.exe /force to reflash the bios.

just PM me with your mail and please, do not be wrong has for the laptop MODEL !!

    I just got a notebook.
    Intel core dou 1.83 - T7100
    2 gb ddr2 ram
    100 gb sata
    8600 GS

Its a good cpu, can run RTS's quite well I'm sure. But struggles a bit with FEAR demo... (the only game I play :) ) when set to default High settings. it runs at 50-60.

With a couple options disabled, or lowered (ie: shaders, shadows, water reflections) its much much smoother.

I'd still LOVE to overclock it though - but to worried I'd break something + void the warranty...

Omg! this is insane.... I just installed nTunes from the official nvidia site (so I could have more features in my nvidia control panel)

and it forced my computer to reset over and over! It was in a loop! Everytime it would get to windows it would suddenly reset.

Finally, I found the problem in processes "ntunes_Service" I disabled that - which stopped it from rebooting. I then ran system restore, now all is well.

I've no idea why my computer is so totally against ntunes...

Another thing, I only get 2101 in 3dmark06 and 4101 in 3dmark05. I've looked around... and people seem to be getting higher stats than me. =(
