It's been over a month since the new eeePC models were announced. By new, I mean the 1015P, 1016P, 1018P, and 1201PN. Most of this occured at ceBIT. Has anyone heard ANYTHING more? When will these be available?

Also, I'm sort of looking for a netbook with the Atom N475 * and* the Ion 2. I can find one or the other, but not both. Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    d

Netbooks in general will be killed off with ipad now and every company following with the same design ...

Netbooks sukked always for long typing so might as well dump the small keyboard fully.

I'm looking in to hp slate.

ps.: got msi wind atm. when out.

Well, noone knows for sure obviously, but I'm hoping for an end of April/early March release for the 1201pn, which I'm planning to buy. I don't think they'll release it any later than that, since I bet Asus is pretty eager to show off the new ION 2. Also, the new Acer 532 with N450 is due this month, and I don't think Asus wants to be seen as lagging behind with the introduction of the new Intel processors. ah, and a vid of a 1201pn prototype was used to showcase IE9 and ION 2 a couple of weeks ago.

About all the other models you mentioned, no clue :D

As for tablets, no way they're gonna replace netbooks. Full-OS, real multitasking, real gaming capabilities (well, only a few), real keyboard and a load of other features can't be replicated on a tablet. Tablets allow you to enjoy content on the way, netbooks to enjoy AND create content on the way.

Thank you both for your response. As an iPhone user, the iPad is definitely appealing, but as a graduate student, the ability to create content (to use dewid's words) is of utmost importance to me.

In a fight between Atom 475 or Ion2, I'd go with Atom 475. I have an Asus G51VX for graphic intensive purposes when needed, so the Ion2 doesn't hold much water. The Atom 475 and its support of DDR3 RAM would probably serve me better.

Now, if I could just find a netbook with both ...
