I was heavily interested in this:
    Asus laptop

The was just going to purchase a usb powered dvd drive for whenever i needed to use a disc.

My question being...is it practical to use as a school/work laptop? i have a great desktop...but, i want the ability and enjoyment to do work wherever...

i think 8 inch was too small...reason i don't want to opt for the acer or msi. i don't exactly want to play games. just run microsoft office and other essential work programs with no lag. the price is reasonable as well.

anyone have this product...used it or whatever? the new dell came out...but, its 8 inch....

also, can this laptop be upgraded to vista and run fine?

really need some sound advice before i jump in head first..

If you're after a laptop that's going to be comfortable for extensive work on the go - and typing away for hours a day at school - then this Eee PC may not quite satisfy you.

I know that I find it a little disconcerting working on projects on small screens (8" to 10") and I think that even though you've got a dedicated desktop setup you could do a bit better.

If you're on a budget the Dell Inspiron 13 (13.3" basic notebook) would satisfy - NBR have a review:

If you can afford to throw US$1,000 at this purchase, the XPS M1330, also from Dell, starting from US$999, is great for work and play. I know several people happy with theirs:

    Good luck!

    A higher-end option from ASUS is the U6V, 12.1"

    I wouldn't put a 13.3" computer on the options list for a netbook -- it's too large.
