My brother's laptop is periodically locking up then within a few seconds it BSODs and restarts itself.
At first I thought it might be a virus since he didn't have an AV on it yet and he's been using it on his Uni's Wifi on his admin account.
After installing an AV (Comodo Internet Security Suite), no Viruses were detected.
I then proceeded to access other areas.
First I installed CCleaner and ran it a few times. it found some issued but apparently not the right one since it restarted itself not long after.

I haven't ruled out a bad driver however, Im not sure which driver may have gone bad so Im going to have to try several of them.

I will attempt to DL and run SpeedFan and report back tomorrow on the operating temps.
Until then any an all input on this will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Fry

    OK update time:
I ran speedfan. the temps seem to be running somewhat high.
They fluctuate between low 30s and upper 40s.
I'll try running his laptop on one of my old coolers and see if that helps any.

Do Asus laptops come with a recovery drive? I was going to do a complete factory restore but I didn't see a recovery drive.

As far as drivers go, are there any specific ones I should test?
I'm going to running the wifi and display drivers to start. Are there any others drivers I should be looking into?

    Fry

I have the exact same problem on my U56E bbl5. My wifes is identical and purchased the same day. she is experiencing no problems/

I have restored to factory Image (press F9 during boot up and follow directions)
This did not cure the issue. I then took the PC to geeksquad were I purchased it in it's factory image state with no added software and they ran extensive diagnostics for 5 days Including one that was designed to make the computer work harder than most users to "stress test it" no issues were detected.

It has been suggested it might be a bios issue and now you suggest drivers. I am very interested in solving this and will post all I find. I am an ametuer although experienced user, but a plumber not a tech, I am awaiting advice from some friends in the know and will post all here.

Also I suspected high cpu temp as I had that issue on a toshiba, But this machine has crashed on boot up after sitting for hours several times.
