    Hi,

First of all, excuse me for my poor English...

I have been using my A6JC for over a month now and having potential trouble with temperatures.

    Laptop: A6JC
    CPU: Intel Core Duo 2.16GHz
    RAM: 2GB DDR 2 533MHz
    HD: 100GB 7200rpm Hitachi TravelStar
    GPU: NVidia GeForce GO 7300

It crashed a few times in first couple of weeks so I've installed Everest Home edition and SpeedFan to monitor the temperatures.

When it's turned on, CPU temperature is about 40c~45C and after a few programs have been loaded and idle, it gets to 50c~55c.

Now, the programs I use are an application server, a Java development environment, Lotus Notes plus a couple of web browsers and word docs.
    Ofcourse there is a antivirus(Avast) and a antispyware(ms defender).
When these are loaded, the memory usage is about 850 MB.

When the server actually runs, CPU temperature gets upto 70c to even 77c.

Q1. Is CPU temperature of 70-ish ok ?

If I look at Everst Home or SpeedFan, there is one fan running at 70c and its speed is around 1600rpm.

Q2. Is that mean there is only one fan in my laptop ?
According to SpeedFan, there are 4 fans listed but only first one is functional. Should there be more for GPU and power ?

After investigating on SpeedFan, I was able to change the SpeedFan setting to run my only fan to 4700rpm all the time. This makes noises but cool downs the CPU temp to 60c at max.

The change was "PWM 1 mode" in advanced tab from "Controlled by Hottest Temperature" to "Manually controlled"

Q3. Is it ok to run the fan in full all the time ?

    Thanks...

Lol, sorry to hear that, what is your overall CPU utilization when you use your laptop with the app server?

Your temps sound just fine. If you are experiencing problems i would look at the actual software and the components. 99.99% of problems are not heat related especially with a new laptop.

    It's between 60% to 80 % when CPU temp gets above 70c.

So is 70c to 77c temperature range ok ?

Without SpeedFan, the cpu fan starts to run when cpu temperature gets above 63c. And it never runs above 2600 rpm.

But, with SpeedFan, the fan kicks off at 42c and runs at 4500~4700rpm which makes a lot of noise..

For more info, while I was writing this post, I had Ad-Aware SE scanner running without SpeedFan and the temp was about 63-65 and the fan was barely running at about 800rpm.

As soon as, SpeedFan was turned on, the fan started at 4800rpm at 63c and it cooled it down to 50c a minute.

Is there a way to control when the fan kick off without any fan utility program like SpeedFan ?

Core Duo can survive upto 100C so there won't be any system shutdown or anything like that but for sure 77C is burning.
I have a E1505 that idles around 35-40(I use a Laptop cooler that keeps the idle temp around 25C) and full load at 65c(60c with my laptop cooler)

It's good hear that core duo can handle such high temp.
    Thanks.

But can anyone know an answer to my seound question in the original post ?

Q2. Is that mean there is only one fan in my laptop ?
According to SpeedFan, there are 4 fans listed but only first one is functional. Should there be more for GPU and power ?

I've got the same/simillar chasis as you the A6 one, and from my searches there is only one fan, and only one that i can hear. There is a "heatpipe" connecting the CPU and GPU heatsink together, and one fan cooling the heatsink.

My notebook below, a6km, can get up over 60c when being used around 50% cpu usage for a long time... so I wouldnt be suprised to see 70c running a web server which probably also uses that HDD of yours a fair bit too, creating even more heat.

if you have notebook hardware controller, run it on batteries and tell us how many watts its drawing while running the web server. then someone else witha core duo can compare power usage and heat.

    insane

    hello

can anyone suggest a hardware controller program, that monitors temperature, power, fan revs, HD revs etc i one package?

    thanks

I would suggest undervolting the CPU which will substantially reduce the heat generated when the CPU is running at full speed. Some people use NHC (Notebook Hardware Control http://www.pbus-167.com/chc_main.htm) although I use RM Clock ( http://cpu.rightmark.org/download.shtml).

You may be able to monitor fan activity with Speedfan ( http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php) while I use MobileMeter ( http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-Oakland/8259/) to monitor temperatures and battery charge / discharge.

    Thanks for the reply.

Maybe I was too worried about the temp.

Is it possible to permanently set the fan to kick off at certain temp without SpeedFan or any other hardware controller ?

It is a bit of hassle to run Everest and then SpeedFan everytime.

Without the SpeedFan, my fans kicks off at 60~65c and never runs at full speed which I think is a bit wrong.
