I have the G50vt-x5 and have just started playing games externally to the HDTV. I also hook to the receiver using the SPDIF output. I have read that games don't output multichannel sound to the digital output and this seems to be the case, as I only get stereo output while playing games. Multichannel output works fine when playing DVD's so I believe everything is configured correctly. Is there no way for games to output multichannel sound without getting an external soundcard? Thanks.

I don't have a surround setup, but I think as long as the game supports multichannel and you've selected the option under the audio configuration settings, it should work. As long as your sound card is correctly configured to output 5.1 or 7.1 or whatever to your receiver.

Figured it out. In Sound/Playback/Properties/Advanced/Default Format you have to choose Dolby Digital Live (5.1 Surround). I'm off to shake the room and scare the dog with Bioshock!
