    Hey everyone,

I've been on the fence about getting a G50vt but I was just wondering what models are coming up after the G50vt series.

I've been reading that the new NV GTX260M is already out for Sager and heard that Asus is already prepping a new laptop with this card. Anyone know where I can get news regarding this?

Also, does anyone have advice on whether I should stick to my guns and wait for a newer Asus model or just go for the G50vt? The G50vt has been out since at least November 2008, so I'm really on the fence here.

I'm willing to wait a couple of months if needed and willing to pay more for the new model. Any thoughts? Thanks for those who reply!

I will at least wait until the K series comes out. It looks like the 4860 will be a decent step up from the 9800m GS. Of course, if they don't offer a model with better resolution, many people would still choose the G50vt, but if you're comparing it to the X5 like I am, the resolution is the same.

Also, If you're will to wait until the summer, you may be able to get Windows 7 or at least a free upgrade when it comes out. People have reported better gaming performance under W7 compared to Vista.

Though not confirmed, I'm betting the G50 is getting a bump in specs pretty soon. The N80 already has the T9550 2.66 ghz CPU. I'm guessing the G50 will get the T9550 to replace its T9400. Ram will likely remain the same. Asus is sticking to DDR2 for the time being it would seem. Hard drive space will likely remain the same (possible upgrade to 7200rpm for base configurations). The GPU will probably be one of Nvidia's new cards to differentiate it from the K series. Following its current trend, whatever the G71 gets the G50 will also likely get. So you're probably going to see a GTX 150m-160m going in within 2-3 months.

I don't see the G50 getting LED backlighting, as the new G71gx isn't getting it.
Basically I used the G71gx as the basis behind my speculations, so you can expect the GPU to be a bit weaker than the 260M. I don't think the 260m will fit the thermal budget of the G50. But, it seems to fit the Sager NP8660, so I guess it's possible :D

This is all speculation, but it sounds plausible. I'll be in the market by then so I'm hoping everything above comes true :p.

DDR3 is pretty much useless except on the top Core i7 systems, so I'm glad they aren't throwing it in there just to market it.

A part of that is that it definitely consumes less ram.

Unless you want something else other than asus with a showstopping Geforce GTS 160M, Its from MSI GT628, Coming out Mid April. Not to jack this thread tho, I think the sager Np8662 with 260M GTX is the best bang for your buck you will ever get. Nough said. and comes out april 10 2009. But the thing about MSI that you need to consider is the build quality with flexing keyboard. And for sager, Oh boy its really a beast 15.4 ever created.

Asus will definitely release a A-1 version of the K series, packing WSXGA+. Seems very plausible, seeing how all their best buy entry models have far inferior resolutions to their A-1s and A-2s.

    Hi guys,

I´m also on my way to buy a G50vt-A2 but I´ve seen that the MSI has more battery time and is lighter. What about the new Sager?

Perhaps you should consider filling in the FAQ in the What Notebook Should I Buy forum.
