yo, whats the chances we see MIMO mini-PCI wifi cards in asus laptops anytime soon? Samsung is putting it in the X20 now shipping (not in the usa of course)

Do yall think it will be as simple as switching out the intel cards and popping the airgo card in?

this technology just makes me think centrino what? it has better throughput...better range..AND uses less power than current intel wifi cards.

The asus retailer market seems perfect for this card.

justin, eddie..this made your radar screen yet?

Um..... never?! Centrino dude..... it isn't going to happen. First, I get about 200 yards on my intel card --- about 400 yards on Asus' G card....... Who really needs 200 yards... not many people.

It's not going to happen. Asus' ensemble models have to ship as centrino's and you don't know the crap dell went through a couple years ago advertising centrino systems but dells own wifi. For custom systems...... We'll offer systems without wifi and you don't get the centrino sticker, but no one's ever ordered without wifi. We're not going to sell anything else because the whole thing around centrino is that it's been tested over and over to work together. So, supporting it is easy.

You're welcome to buy a custom system or even an ensemble and replace the card. The intel cards cost like $30, so it's not that big of a deal to toss it and they are easy to replace.

Well its not so much JUST the range...its speed at those ranges....you might get 200 yards...but your not getting the speed these things provide at those distances. I'm with in range in most of my house but not all...and often im only getting 3Mbs and dropped signals....this is using a 2200 intel card on a regular wireless g network. Too many walls in my house i suppose...router location...etc... I need a better solution. Especially since I move large files back and forth. Of course internet surfing is fine.

you have to have a MIMO router paired with it to unleash this beast but when you do...man.

Witnessed my friends Belkin Pre-N router paired with the Pre-N PCI card and yo...the difference is night and day. I felt like I was in that McDonalds Michael Jordan/Larry Bird commercial....across the street...over the bridge...down the block...nothing but signal and speed. Needless to say...I've ordered a Belkin Pre-N router...

I could careless for a centrino sticker....I'd rather have a MIMO sticker...intel cards ares not even in the same league (and they are playing catch up with sub par wanna be MIMO technology). Centrino is just a marketing term isn’t it?

These new Airgo cards provide MUCH longer range, faster speeds...AND 2 times more energy efficient...who doesn't want longer battery life? Isn’t this what centrino was aiming to do in the first place?

This looks to be the all around best miniPCI card to have in a laptop untill 802.11n hits 2 years from now. I just thought since these built on asus systems are pretty custom...it makes since to me that builders would offer it. I know this won't happen with ensembled models.

I'd be happy with adding one later to the z70 refresh I plan on buying side from the fact my gut says they will be hard to find. Hell the only intel miniPCI wifi cards I can find are way over priced. Plus I dont' think Airgo will ship to consumer market with these for a while...

that pre-n sounds real good. However, I'm sure all these wifi solutions are due for a major upgrade when WiMax comes out. Anyone heard anything about when it will be common? Hopefully in September/October. That's why I decided to just stick with my 2200bg -- it isn't great, but I know it'll work and be sufficient until WiMax comes out.

I'm not going to preach for intel's card, trust me. The whole centrino sticker thing is marketing and marketing that took Intel two years to get people to realize. So really if someone sees the sticker they are supposed to know what they got. That doesn't mean anything for this group. For the cost of the cards and considering how easy they are to swap....... you can try it and if it makes you feel better, great. If it uses less power, that's really awesome.......... it's just there's not wrong with Intel's card as far as intenet speeds go. For transferring 1gb+ files from my laptop to my desktop... then I'd love to be faster, but for anything else it doesn't matter. It's not like intel's card is really bottlenecking anyone, although the faster and longer the better....

All I'm saying is intel's card is $30........ if you give me contact info for Airgo, I'll see if I can hook you up.
