Can anyone suggest one over the other? I can not decide between these two laptops. From what I can tell both are the same with the exceptions of the vid card, looks and price (only about 150). I’m just can pick from these.

This pc will be my main computer. Any advice form you all would be great.

The G50V- A1's gfx are approximately 15~20% better than the M50V. Also, the looks are a significant aspect. I personally have a G50V and it's amazing in terms of performance and design but it may not be for most non-gamer people who buy into the minimalist school of thought. The M50V is a lot more conservative

Aye, the G50 is *ORANGE* -- not exactly a demure color scheme.

If your gaming needs are modest-moderate, both will serve you equally well; performance differences outside of contemporary games with high settings will be negligible, and show up mostly only on benchmarks.

There are more differences between the two systems than just the GPU and looks.

    Differences include:

    M50VM has:
    Dual function media touchpad
    Swivel webcam (1.3 MP)
    Fingerprint reader
Ambient light sensor (allows automatic adjustment of brightness based on external lighting)

    The G50V has:
    more powerful GPU
secondary display strip (to tell you if you have new e-mail, cpu usage, or reminder message).
    2MP webcam (non-swivel)

Both are good systems (which can be seen from reading the respective owner lounge threads). If you spend most of your time on the computer playing games then the G50 may be slightly better for you, and if you mainly use the computer for multimedia features (watching DVDs/videos, viewing pictures, etc) then the M50 may be the better system for you.

I have an M50VM system, and have been extremely pleased with it. While the G50V may be slightly more powerful for games the M50VM is no slouch in that department. (The M50VM is able to run many recent games, like The Witcher, with everything at max settings and native resolution with no problems.

I like the looks of the M50 more. I play some games. My current laptop has a 6600 go in it. very old card but still works just not on new games now. All I care about is playing Red Alert 3... and a few other games.

I have to concur with Avid Gamer, the B2 is an incredible laptop. I went from the defective Gaming laptop G1S (also from ASUS) and this is just a huge step up. Not only is the gaming performance still very good, but in almost every single way it trounces my previous system.. Thank god I got this B2 as free replacement for my G1S ;) lol.

I believe the G50 also comes with Vista Home Premium 64bit standard, so you can use all 4gb of RAM. I'm kinda in the same situation as you, I really like the M50, but the G50 is very tempting...

It has features such as the media touchpad, and the like.

I might actually be getting m50vm instead of G50, because of the lack of budget, and orange trims :( But of course, its mostly because of the budget.

Orange is not really a favorable color for me. But what affected my decision was the budget, not really the orange trims.

    M or G... M or G....

Just so you all know i currently have a Asus z71v.

Wait... so I read that the G can overclock. Did I read that right. Can you other G owners let me know. I may just have to order this tonight.

What part of the system do you want to overclock? What program do you think you need to overclock for?

You're not going to see much of a real world difference (if any) overclocking the CPU and GPU in most notebooks, and the default CPU and GPU settings on the M50Vm and G50V will handle most of the programs you try running (while staying cool and quiet ;) ).

I was in the same boat as you deciding between these two laptops. As a matter of fact, I was planning on getting the M50 for 3 or 4 months. When the time came to buy one, I noticed the new G50V was very similar, but was slightly better.

First, the main difference between the two (imo), is that the G50 has dual hard drives and also includes the ability to run both hard drives in a RAID configuration. This way you can either double (theoretically) your hard drive performance or you can set up a RAID 1 to prevent you from suffering from data loss if one hard drive were to fail. You'll also see a 5.9 for hard drive performance in Vista's speed test, where as 5.4 is about the max you would see without a raid configuration. This built-in raid is really what sold me to the G50 over the M50.

Secondly, the G50 has a built in OLED screen that can be customized to display several messages, such as memory, cpu usuage, and more right above the keyboard. It's something to consider, but not really a biggie. I think the main reason for including this is to help sell some OLED stuff in hopes of getting the price of OLED down so that we can eventually start buying OLED monitors. Those things would be way to expensive if they were mass produced right now, so they are trying to integrate smaller displays into other things until they can get production costs lower.

Thirdly, the cosmetic look of the G50 is a hate it, love it, like situation. For me, I like it. The orange doesn't scream LOOK AT ME, in my opinion. I think it's a very refreshing new look. The lights on the lid are what screams HEY LOOK AT ME. If you don't want to be screaming for attention, you can easily turn those lights off. Once you have something like that, though, you're going to say "hey, that's kinda cool, anyway".

I really love my G50v laptop and I've been experimenting with it all day today trying to see how far I could under-volt it while maintaining the same stock speed. I got it down to 0.9625 volts! The thing slows down to 0.950v when it's completely inactive. So, basically, now I have a laptop that consumes barely more power at 100% load than it does at an idle state. It's going on a little over an hour on prime95 without any errors, so I'm confident that this undervolt is very stable (and very power conservative).

I wish you luck with whichever laptop you decide to buy, and I'm sure either way you go, there will be people here to help you with either one.

    ~ EneergE

    EDIT:

I must mention this, just in case you were to get either one of these laptops. The glass-like finish on the lid and the sides/tops of the LCD scratch extremely easy. The G50 comes with a microfiber like cloth for cleaning the LCD, but I would advise not using this for cleaning the lid or sides of the LCD, because it will still scratch them. You must buy a microfiber towel if you want to clean fingerprints or dust from these areas. A paper towel or soft t-shirt will leave (very fine) scratches. A microfiber towel will not leave these scratches, however. Be sure to grab you one of these, and don't use the side that has the tag on it!
