I theorize that the x1700 in the g2p will be about the same as the 7700.

Changed somehow, like a x1700 gt

I keep having to lower my expectations on that machine though.

Someone somewhere has to realize the buyer for the g2p can buy the g1p at the same place lol.

    ATI Mobility™ Radeon® X1700 512 MB Physical VRAM (G2)
So does that mean 256mb dedicated + turbocache or 512mb dedicated?

The title of the thread gives me a good reason why we had a recent name change, :)

WOW! I am surprised and shock, but for some reason I kinda felt that ASUS was just gonna use a X1700 btw who cares if the X1700 has 512mb the Go 7700 is better and ASUS should have used something more powerfull like the X1800 or something.

I still like the G1P, that thing is quite possibly one of the best 15.4" gaming machines ever.

I still have some hopes for the G2P in the sense that the G2P will get a spec change, since I've still not seen a production model, so anything could still be changed in my opinion.

If the G2P doesn't change, which is most likely wouldn't the G2P will go down as failed product IMO, because the price would seem to high for what your getting compared to Dell or Toshiba.

Besides if the G2P is priced around 2500 or so, i don't see why users would want a heavier, bulkier, flashing like laptop when you can just get a W2J and it looks much better.

Ohwell, whatever the case may be, I hope to see these things soon.

    Thanks,

No, they're talking about 512mb dedicated VRAM on that x1700... where as the W2p is still *supposed* to have 256mb x1700... but who knows, even that could get the 512mb dedicated.

This is rather good news for me... Not in regards to the G2 but the G1. Only bad news is that it seems like there won't be the swappable optical drive... But never-the-less, this is the system for me.

For those who think the LED will be annoying: isn't there a way to disable it?

When will ASUS start selling laptops on their own? I'd love to upgrade that CPU w/out loosing the warrenty.

    HAHA funny one Eddie!

Does anyone (Justin, or anyone digging out Asus press releases) know the expected release date of the G1P/G2P? It seems the link that led to Asus' announcement doesn't have a date on it.

pevelg, interesting but yes, from the pictures i saw, it doesn't look like the G1P has a multi-bay like the W3J, ohwell.

I hope there's a way to turn those LEDs off, check the Dell forum for that since many of them own the XPS M170/M1710, they may know something about this.

Also pevelg, there was a thread about ASUS and their production/marketing and how we, the consumers feel about it.
Just to give some quick major points agains't what you are saying.
    - ASUS would have to develop a huge system to deal with orders, like Dell
    - Distributors and Resellers would basicaly dissapear, they are the ones who physicaly sell and help promote ASUS to the consumers.
    - ASUS would have to do an enormous marketing strategy, and have to pay for a large number of wages for customer support.
    - ASUS is basicaly #1 or close to that on the other side of the world, meaning ASUS is doing something right... lol

smartsam11, i agree, if someone knows about the release date, plz do tell, but my guess is that they are not allowed to release this info, because it is clasified for the time being.

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

I still like the G1, hope this gaming notebook is not too heavy compare to others 15'4 :p

Anyone know when will be releasing date? After January 2007 when the Vista launch?
