Hi,
I'm new here and will be getting a v6j soon.
I've read some posts about swapping out the v6j lid for lambo one. There were just a few things I was wondering about doing this swap.
1. Where can I get this lid in Australia, i.e. who do I contact (by email preferrably) ASUS themselves? or service centres?
2. Has anyone done it, and could they put up a guide on how to do it?
Well thanks for your time, and in general I have to thank you guys for all your informative posts that have helped me come to my decision.
Cheers

You may not able to get the VX1 lid.
As for dissmantling the lid and swapping may cause damage and void the warranty.
Hence I don't recommend it. However you can just buy the VX1 but, it is ofcourse very expensive.
Many just like the V6J lid, since it exhibits little to no flex. -
Thanks for the reply.
Its just I'm a bit of a car nut and enjoy modding stuff but as a uni student, I don't really have the funds for the vx1.

You might be able to arrange something with Synnex Australia, the Australian distributors... but I wouldn't hold my breath.
I take it you're considering the V6J reissue that's selling for around $2000 AUD? -
Maybe you can find one in Taiwan if you ever visit, look for a study abroad program!

Hi Guys & Gals,
Had the V6J for about a week now so here are some thoughts:
1. The looks, there is just no comparison to all the dell, compaq and acer that get strutted around campus. The thinness, brushed aluminium and the minimalist styling just scream class in comparison to what those plebians use.
2. The screen, it's ok, but I thought the viewing angles would be a bit better. I have the SXGA matte screen and the colours are fine, but blacks seem to wash out when moving from side to side. Not sure if this is a general problem since it is my first laptop.
3. I have found the processing and gaming power sufficient. Mine came with the t2050 which is fine from my perspective. I was thinking that down the track when the warranty starts to run out I'll switch it over to a C2D but for MATLAB and other stuff its fine. Boot time is fast enough, and it runs games as good as my 2 yr old desktop.
4. The right palm rest gets quite warm, but I kind of expected that in such a thin laptop. It is not to the point where it is too hot to touch, you could definately rest your palm there for an extended period of time but it is definately not a problem for me at all.
5. After using it for a week, the biggest bottleneck appears to be the hard drive. Maybe when I save enough money I might think of switching to a 7200.
Overall I love it, and the free stuff, but as a student with only AUD$2000 to spend its the best choice around!
