those are the WEAKEST specs for a laptop that price!!!
many laptops $1k lower could smoke that sucker.

what a massive dissapointment. come on asus

the ferrari from acer atleast has some muscle... freaking $3000+ with a geforce go7400 with T/C

better off getting a V6J and sticking on the Lamborghini Bull logo

Go 7400? No IPS screen? Might as well just put it in the trash. That is if those are the Official specs. That sucks. That's like Lambo making there next supercar and deciding to put a lawnmower engine in it. There is a lot of laptops half that price that could smoke that pos.

    Only a 7400??

What on earth did they throw in there to make it $3390? I honestly can't see why you would buy that over the V6J.

    lol, sweet!

2nd tier performance has never looked so good, or cost so much, for that matter... :D

Seriously, I guess it's fitting of the "Lambo" moniker -- I mean, yea, aside from making expensive, unreliable, and angular cars -- when was the last time they actually *WON* a *RACE*? Oh, that's right they don't even HAVE a race division!

You could almost buy a "real" laptop from (gasp) VoodooPC at that price...

    cheers,

    yass

I hope this is not accurate. What a waste of money that would be. The v6j would be a much better deal. if this is the actually specs i dont even see them selling a dozen of them.

If these specs are true the only real differance between the V6j and the lambo is a shiney cover and what less than .4 Ghz and a ZBD for 11 months. Ooh yes thats worth extra 1.2k-1.5k you have to spend on it.

    /Rolls eyes Good job Asus.

You guys will believe anything won't you? The Vx1 will NOT come to the US with V6j specs, only for a much higher price....... and for you to believe that and just complain about Asus is for you not to believe in Asus at all. Please hold back your complaints until the US model is finalized.....

For this price you have a way better W2J. IMO they may keep these things within the company.

Only brainless people with too much money would buy this one.

The pricing of $2,700 something has been finalized --- regardless of whatever the configuration will be.... Asus will confirm that the configuration is certainly going to be different from the V6j, but this model is NOT supposed to compete with the Acer Ferrari..... This model is strictly to get people familiar with the line and prepare the company to launch the subsequent models that are going to be based on an all new design - from the ground up - with Lamborghini..... those models aren't going to compete with the Acer either... they're going to blow it away.....

Basically... I've been told not be hold my breath for this one...... its' going to be so limited that if close to now one buys it, it's still going to sell out in a couple weeks...... but it's to get people and MAGAZINES familiar with it for what's coming down the line. Lamborghini has a huge say in what happens and Asus said that Lambo is actually the final word...... so they're picking the configuration (tell me if that makes sense?)..... but that means that it should be the same configuration everywhere as instead of each country having a say.... Lambo makes that decision and that's it....

Now...... apparently the outside is more than just a paintjob........ well, it's a paintjob, but Asus says they're actually done AT Lambo's facility in Bolognese.... it's not just a robot painting the thing... it's a 15-20 step process.... so that alone is where a LOT of the cost is coming from, so 7,200rpm hard drives and bigger video cards are OUT for this model... sorry to say it, but after my initial reaction (which is probably the same as yours and consists of letters that are normally blocked out like this: @#$^@#($!@), I realized that if the paintjob is getting that kind of attention, that alone makes up $400-500 easy..... eassssssssy... From there, we'll see... but I don't see ANYONE in this forum buying one. Some will be unable to afford it, and others will put their money into something else......

... and with that.... I'm waiting to see what Lambo Vx2 looks like.....

In reality I wasn't expecting much out of this model given that it was meant to get a buzz going... and I've starred at V6's for a year, so I need more than just a paintjob.... but as pissed as this news made me, I calmed down and thought about it and realized they're playing it safe and almost using this as a marketing tool for the future of the line.... people will buy them and we all better hope they do... because if no one does then Lambo might pull out and there won't be a future!!!!!!!. ... but I think it'll work out...

I have to say - it is SWEET looking though. I love the whole palm rest and interior look. If I had the cash to spend (blow)...

...and if she only had an IPS screen. Hopefully that's the first upgrade in next year's model (and a 15.4 inch WIDESCREEN).

I was looking very forward for this! since I have a nearly unlimited budget to get a portable gaming laptop~

BUT 7400? you got to be kidding me ><

at least give it a 7600~ even the a8j have a 7600 for crying out loud~

I guess its back to browsing laptops for me :p

V1j most likely... long wait though >< or maybe a 8204 when its problems ar sorted out

Ps. I don't see how this can compete with the ferrari...

The 7400 Go is actually pretty good, my friend has the V6J and he installed 2GB of ram which mean he can use turbocache and increase the video memory to 512MB, Battlefield 2 runs very smoothly in mid-high detail in 32 players server, I was impressed.

Guys, relax, the Lambo Vx1 to me doesn't seem like a gaming notebook, its for those to show off!i!i!i!

If you want a gaming machine look to having a 15.4" Screen, or a 17" screen laptop containing atleast a X1600 which would get you roughly 4000+ 3DMarks05.

The Lambo is jsut a business/show off notebook, but has alot of praticality, because its thin and light, plus packs power!

If your looknig for the Ultimate 15" 4:3 aspect ratio laptop, this is it!, it looks the best, its thin and light, gots power, cost alot, and most of all is prolly RARE! (depends on how many are produced)

Those of you who want to game, I can only suggest 4 models right now, for portable gaming...W3J, W1J, V1J, V6J, plus others who don't mind the A6J series... they are all geared for portable gaming! Plus they are much cheaper than the Vx1.

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

The Asus VX1 gives Lamborghini a bad name whereas the Acer 4005 gives Ferrrai a reputational boost by providing the best of the best components money can buy. The VX1 only provide mediocre components.

Asus reminds me so much of Sony where they think they are above the rest of the boys but in actual fact, based on surveys from their home countries, they are second best: Matsush-ita (Panasonic/National/JVC) is more popular than Sony in Japan. Acer is more popular than Asus in Taiwan. Thinking their reputation preceeding others, their prices are always higher but yet provide second-rated components.

I also feel this is going to be a big mistake for ASUS...but what can you do??? If the VX2 is going to be what we all thought the VX1 was, I really think they should have just started the line with that instead of releasing this V6 based model to begin with. I don't see the logic at all, but that's just me.

Like I said before, I never intended to buy this model, but I was really hoping ASUS would showcase what they're capable of in it...and show their full potential to the rest of the world. I REALLY feel bad for all the people who have been waiting for this model with actual anticipation and intent to buy.

I understand there's people out there with an unlimited budget who'd love to have a luxury based laptop, especially one associated with Lambo and made by Asus...but even with an unlimited budget, with these current specs, the laptop doesn't offer any value (compared to the V6J amoung others)...or seem to have that all out best of the best wow factor either...so people are basically being let down in the two categories that people looking to buy a laptop like this covet the most.

We'll see how things play out when the specs are finalized...but after hearing Justin say what he said, It seems like the final specs are in line with what was listed at the start of this topic. Time will certainly tell...but It's not looking good... :)

PS, at $400-$500 for a paint job, I really hope it doesn't scratch and wear easily, because If It does, then what would seem to be it's only defining factor would be lost...what a waste that would be!

Well what will turn out to be the Vx2 will simply be it's own chassis and just with that, will have no other Asus to really compare itself to......

The $$$$$ that designing a system from the ground up actually takes is a lot to invest. So, rather than design say what will be the Vx2, and get a few prototypes made up and have them reviewed.... and then finally get the model out 5-6 months down the line... They started with a quality base in the V6. The "logic" really is there if you just look.... Just the look of the Vx1 is attracting plenty of people and although I can't really say if it's "worth it for me", it probably is for other people. There are plenty of companies out there raising their prices 40% for basically a V6 that's just painted..... The only difference with what Asus is doing is that they're having Lamborghini paint them and lambo did design the little raise piece on the lid (which is just to remind you of the engine lids on most all of the recent lambo's.... They're going to use these to market the brand and then when the Vx2 is ready - word will have spread about the system..... Since it's basiaclly a V6j, the reviews will have to be good at worst and if reviewers really get into the paintjob, then they'll really be touting that for future models..... so the most they can say is that it's over priced..... but at least Lamborghini has their name on it and not just some company who paints laptops...... I've gone into my Lambo products rant in other threads, but if the paintjob is anything like that on a Lambo, then it'd be the niceset painted laptop out there.....

If no one buys them, then the only thing Asus or Lambo lost would really be in the paintjobs...... and lets face it, whatever they make will sell, but not great. All future models are supposed to be full release models and those HAVE to sell........ this is just a different way to market it so that the next model doesn't look like old news by time it gets released.

popularity means nothing. Acer is more popular than asus so what. Acer is ****. Build like garbage. if you think like that then Dell is number on in the US and they are absolute junk. Their pcs fall apart. asus is above the rest in build. you can throw any fast parts in a **** chasis. you can put a vette engine in a yugo doesnt mean its good. but i do think asus messed up this lambo model its a shame. im sure their next lambo will be better. This was really just to get the lambo asus name out.

    Ahhh...obviously you have misunderstood me.

I didn't think the Acer Ferrari was good (although I wouldn't call it sh-it or garbage either). I only said it provided the best components money can buy at the time it was released.

Anyways, I was only trying to suggest that Asus has always think they are high and mighty, thinking they are the best of the best. Because of this thinking, they almost always price their products more expensive and yet provide mediocre components when compared to its [worldwide] competitors. Much like Sony, which has been thinking this way since the beginning of time. Ask any Japanese and most would agree. Likewise is applicable to the average Taiwanese rating Asus.

Asus 10-15 years ago when they were dedicated to making motherboards....YES, awesome! Nowadays, NO, probably due to scattering of their brilliant scientists to far too many product lines. Again, I'm speculating, so don't over-react and chew my head of...

They dont use the most high end parts. But they are well built so its kinda like the thinkpad idea. not the best just built really well. theirs always a trade off. i mean the v6j is really thin they probably couldnt put a better video card in their without overheating. sony does think they **** doesnt stink. But i think asus is much better than sony quality.

iTwins, your basically saying ASUS is acting like Sony, in terms of offering mediocore components and a high price.

Now the Lambo Vx1 definately fits those characteristics...but not all ASUS models do.

If you look at all of the Ensemble units and compare their prices to other manufacturers and thier ensemble or customizeable units, you will prolly find that ASUS has cheaper prices and better components and better built quality than the rest.

With that said, Built On ASUS models are extremely hard to beat in terms of prices and quality, compared to others.

Lets just say 3000 Lambo Vx1 are gonna be created, they will all sell out, because these are unique...and only the rich can afford em, that's the market ASUS was aiming for. (in my opinion)

Also We all knew the price of this was going to be close to 3k, with that known, and if it did come with a Go 7600 or a Go 7800... i still doubt you woulda bought, or anyone here.

But since it came with a Go 7400, and most of us are on a tight budget, you have no competition, just buy the V6va or V6J and be happy.

    here's some more speculation:
We know the W3J has a X1600, it is severly underclocked but still provides awsome power.

The question is why did ASUS put and Nvidia card into the Lambo, over a ATI, one reason is because Nvidia is more compliant with Linux.

One reason why the only put in a Go 7400 is because it produces enough heat for teh cooling system to handle, anymore and it would overheat, therefore the 7600 and 7800 could not be put in.

This is also assuming the X1600 power consumption and heat generations are equal to the 7400, but the 7600 and 7800 produce more heat and consume more power.

enuff for me. just wait for the Vx2...but your still not gonna buy it.. lol cos the cost will be too high anyways.

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

Why are some of you guys so blindly loyal to Asus. Buy whatever gives you the most for your money. A budget graphics card should not be put into a $3000+ enthusiast laptop. If they can put a x1600 in a 14" laptop, then why can't they put it in a 15" one? heck you can put a 7800gtx into a 15" dell laptop with some modding. All this laptop is is a marketing gimmick to sucker a guy with more money then brains by a fancy paint job.

Well anyway the w3j offers a lot more bang for the buck so I will probably go with that one.

I don't see anyone in this thread, including myself who could be called "loyal to Asus" over this notebook and possible configuration......... infact if you read it, everyone's quite pissed off about it. People are loyal to Asus for their products...... quality, performance, design, value for the dollar.... probably in that order.... till someone else can hit on 2-3 of those, I can't see anyone jumping ship.... however, something like the Vx1 isn't meant for anyone in this forum........ it's meant for someone without a budget who might like the V6, but likes the details of the Vx1 and just wants to be different. I think the US is only getting like 50 of these........ we sold through 50 W3j's in about 8 hours...... if this Lambo model takes a month to sell out, I wouldn't be surprised, but it also wouldn't be called a failure either...

... People need to start thinking outside the box and try to understand what this does for Asus and whether or not the entire forum or even asus' entire fan base is against it...... it broadens people's perspectives.... This might be Asus' first laptop to make the cover of a big magazine and although everyone will consider these "lamborghini notebooks" -- Asus' name won't be far behind and it'll get people to realize what Asus does........ People have been wondering how to get Asus' name into peoples heads and getting it to be a name that more than just geeks, nerds, dorks and it guys know and everyone can recognize the same way we do... that's what this is.

Personally I feel that could have made this a $3,000+ laptop and done everything we imagined they would with it and their limited production never would have enough..... although people would still complain about as we all know.... so they can't win, but I think everyone's on the same page with the fact that they're certainly not going to win over any current asus fans with this particular model...

WHile not excellent in terms of specs they aren't bad either and it is an absolutely stunning design! Much better than the acer ferraris this thing makes them look like a toy!

I wouldn't knock lamborghini there cars are incredibly fast. The paintjob and the fact that it is done by Lamborghini is very cool and makes up most of the cost.

OK first you probabyl cant afford asus so your complaining. as for the them putting a better chip in the 14 the v6j and lambo may be 15 but are as thin as a powerbook. you cant disapate heat enough to cool it. and to say just go buy whatever the most for the money is dumb as well. yes asus does charge more for looks. But who wants a dell or acer they fall apart. They creak rattle. ****py keyboards. use ****py screen.some dell screens are ok though.asus you get a great build and to me thats worth 2-300 more. thats like saying why would i want a sonata when i can get a bmw. people always pay fore for quality and fit and finish.

Again, you've mistaken. Not all products fit this behavior...just most.

Don't take it the wrong way...I am not one of the anti-Asus guys who speak negatively without any merits. I have bought many Asus products in the past (maybe a little too many) from cheapo to ultra expensive (GF4600, GF7800), I would say I have the rights to judge Asus negatively based on my perception.

Haha, on the contrary, No. I was actually looking forward to the VX1 as I didn't find the Acer Ferrari fitting my needs (too big, too heavy). But never would I think that the VX1 would be this sh-it. Now that the worsen my view of Asus further.

Of course, the other latest Asus Core Duo products are not something you can write home about neither. I guess you don't have as many Asus-competitor products available in the States as we do here in SE-Asia. so it's hard for you to grasp what Asus really is.

Anyways, just this afternoon, I went to check on the A8Jm hoping to get a good bargain (I prefer its GF7600 more than the ATi x1600. Like you said, better drivers.) It has just arrived in Hong Kong just a few days ago and it's selling for a whopping HK$15,980 or US$2060. Bargaining with the saleman for 15 minutes and he still refused to budge except to offer only HK$500 (US$64) off. I got fed up and went and bought the BenQ Joybook S73G instead, for a even HK$13,000 (US$1675) and bargained to include 2x1GB RAM instead of its original 512MB. Compare the two and you will see why anyone sane would want a BenQ over an Asus.

PS. BTW, BenQ notebooks come with 3 XP licenses:
    - Windows XP Home - English
    - Windows XP Home - Chinese Traditional
    - Windows XP Home - Chinese Simplified

Asus notebooks only comes with either one.

Not that non-Asian cares but still.... :)

If it was so easy, I'm sure they would. In the real world though there's issues such as physical size of a graphics chip, heating/cooling considerations...etc...etc...etc to take into account.

Also I think you'll find the chassis of this unit to be MUCH slimmer than the Dell 15" models.

It might have been better to have taken the w2j and turn that into a lambo. Its just as beautiful and would have much better cooling. pretty much fit any video card in their.

Are you really this quick to jump on someone? Of course build quality is a big part of bang for your buck. I never said it wasn't.

You just seemed to have a negative tone. Listin im a big asus fan. But if the lambo specs are correct its a huge waste of money i agree. but the avsus price for ensembles are reasonable. sure you can get a dell with similar specs. But it will not be built as well. i really dont know why they came out with this lambo it wasnt needed. i look for bargins also. i love built on series from asus and other people. You wont see me going to buy an alienware just cause i can build the same machine that is better for cheaper. But ive owned lots of different brand laptops maybe 6 brands. and worked on many others. And overall asus is the best to me. unless need a gaming rig then asus doesnt offer much and you should go with a uniwill or clevo.

It's a statement laptop, meant to catch attention and promote the brand - it's not targeted at the enthusiast market, because most of you won't pay $400 for a paintjob anyway.

I know it's hard to believe, but MOST people don't game on their laptops (GASP). The gpu in the lambo is fine for most people.

You guys are all complaining like you expected the lambo to come in at $1700 with the x1600 or even the 7800. It's not aimed at you, you're not buying alienware, voodoo or any of the other painted systems, you're looking for customizable, high-end systems at the lowest price.

Just drop the lambo off your to-buy list already if you don't like it. I'm willing to bet that if it came in with the best specs possible, you'd still be yelling about paying the $400 extra for the paintjob.

Exactly CoffeeShark, you said it man.

The Lambo Vx1, is NOT aimed for people on the forums, and when most of us heard about the Acer Ferrari, it seemed like the entire world new about it... now Acer kicked out Toshiba for 3rd place in laptop sales.

Asus and Lambo are trying to achieve the same thing, get the name ASUS in people's mind.

I told my friend to buy a ASUS Z70va over the Dell 6000d, the price was the same. He din't know about the Z70va, told him to go to Canadasys, and boom he bought it.

Why else do people buy sony...it's a well known brand name... and ASUS is just trying to get that across by using a special notebook the Vx1.

Now im gonna state, DO NOT LOOKFORWARD to buy a Lambo of any kind, they are expensive, if you want power. Buy the ASUS W3J, A8j series, A6J series, W1J, W2J, V1J....and for old school, get the Z70va and or Z1v.

Or else look to other brands. Not like you should just close your mind and think...wow im a asus fan, only gonna buy asus, and then be dissapointed when something doesn't go your way. Laptops are all just Machines.

itwins, great you got a laptop, aslong as your happy that's great, also a small thing to consider, pricing differs from country to country. Here in North America, ASUS, Toshiba, Acer and Dell are the seem to be the cheapest.

And ASUS has the best bang for the buck, unless Dell throws in a coupon and some deals...everyone here knows that.

Also regarding that Dell M70 and the 7800gtx, YES it is do-able, almost everyone here knows about it...it is underclocked, but still its the best 15.4" performance gaming laptop lol...but not the most pratical or easiest thing to do.

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

    lol

5 pages of Asus loyalists defending and Asus haters/indifferent bashing -- over a ****py overpriced laptop with a coat of paint... :D

Buy whatever suits your needs and budget. That is all.

I really could care less about the brand -- Asus, Sony, Dell, whatever. I had good experiences with all of them, and bad experiences with all of them. Being "loyal" to a particular electronics brand in this day and age is idiotic imo.

Dell isn't the devil, Asus isn't the best thing that happened to laptops since Thinkpads, who cares? You get whatever you want that fits your needs. It's just a freaking LAPTOP -- a tool that will be obsolete in less time than you probably would care to admit. Move on, nothing to see/read here... heh

    cheers,

    yass

    I disagree

if ASUS hypes this as a high performance model - which is the whole point of the Lambo association - and then releases a [comparatively speaking] turd with a pretty paint job instead the lose something huge

    credibility .... and respect

you only get ONE chance to make a first impression

if ASUS releases this - assuming a pretty paint job fulfills their marketing hype - they will not be taken seriously on whatever subsequent prodyuct they try to brand under the Lambo line

it is a HUGE error in my opinion - and a comparitively huge loss to their reputation

put another way - ASUS has hyped a very high end performance sports car and is delivering a Chevy with a fancy paint job

no matter how much lipstick you put on a pig, its always gonna be a pig ...

Just to put this into perspective, Asus isn't hyping this as a high performance model, they're touting it as high quality... there's a difference. Lambo teamed up more for the design than the performance (although they wouldn't put their name on some low end model), but I know with regard to the Vx1, the partnership is aimed to raise the notion we have with Asus' quality - to the rest of the world by having Lambo as a willing partner... The future of the line hopefully will be different, but it's the design and quality aspect that Lambo is really interested in, it's only the rest of us who believe the partnership should also include super highend things in terms of speed...... faster cpu, faster and more ram, faster and larger hard drives... I'm on that side totally, however their plan apparently doesn't really have that coming into play until at least the second model. Truth be told, the US office isn't totally excited about the configuration, although they tell me that it's still going to be a higher configuration than the V6j, even if just by a little bit....... but they're told by Taiwan that Lambo had the final say in what configuration the unit had...... so technically.... it's either Asus' fault for giving them that right or Lambo's fault for choosing what they did...

Regardless, this thread is halarious.... I joked about being loyal to Asus with someone who mentioned it and even though no one in this forum will buy this particular version of this model.... due to cost or configuration.... everyone is certainly very opinionated - which I'd love to see in other threads!
