Ok I sent in my g51vx BestBuy edition to have the drive replaced. Well they did replace the hard drive. They replaced it with a 5400 RPM Hitachi instead of the seagate 7200 RPM drive that it came with. Now I know they may not think this makes a difference but it does!! Im VERY unhappy with this.

I'd raise hell if I were you. They need to replace a part with an equal or greater part. Not a downgrade like that.

wow man, i would raise more than hell. Thats one of the big reasons why i didnt get the g71 due to 5400rpm drive. Thats not acceptable what so ever. You really need to call in and talk to a superviser, skip all the customer service ppl. I hope you get this worked out because that makes me not even want to buy another asus product again.

You bet I will I should have looked when I got it back but I trusted them. Its still under warranty so im not too worried, but im out of a computer for another week. They are lucky the support line is closed. I will give them a call right after work.

Only reason I caught on so late is I didnt game enough up until a recent LAN I had. I was the last to load all the time. Then tonight in DoW2 I was last to load and finally got mad and looked up the numbers on the drive up. Sure enough 5400 rpm to be exact this model http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145227&Tpk=hts543232l9a300

Was the hard drive that failed the one that came with the notebook, or your own custom one?

Before you "raise hell" like all the "tough"guys here said they would, have you ever considered that they replaced it with the 5400 rpm accidentally?
Maybe something you should consider before you open your big mouth at them..

OK, did Asus do this, or Best Buy? I thought Geek Squad handled all of the BB models.

The one that failed was the one that came with the notebook. No I went through asus for this repair, im sure on that one. Accident or not it shouldnt have happened, im not gonna raise hell just simply ask them to replace it very simply.

Just got off the phone with them. For some reason I got the impression they just don't care. I mean im out of my main computer for another week. this is crazy. They didn't offer an apology or anything, just we will send you another email. It will take a week blah blah blah. I don't know if they are off my recommendation list or not just yet.

Unfortunately raising hell won't work. Asus downgraded my GPU from GDDR3 8600M GT to a GDDR2 one and still haven't got the GDDR3 one back yet even though they are "working" on it... 3months later...

Are you in the UK by any chance cus this is where I am and asus customer service sucks.

Yeah I knew that before I called so I didn't raise hell. There isn't much I can do either. Its under warranty so im not worried. When it gets out of warranty though my attitude may change.

No, they don't care. Some companies at least practice nice etiquette, or communicate with you in a way that makes you at least think they care. Not Asus, at least in my experiences. But I'll cut that off here before I make myself angry

And about raising hell, it really wouldn't be appropriate to start yelling at them over something like that. I mean it sucks that you'll be without your laptop, but as long as they take care of it, it's all good.

Now if they say something like, we're sorry sir your laptop came with a 5400rpm drive we can't give you a 7200, or they send it back to you AGAIN with a 5400rpm drive, that's when you raise hell.

Since it was their mistake you could also ask the new HDD to be cross-shipped to you. They may agree, in which case you don't need to be w/o the computer.

I have not been happy with the phone support, but the on-line Live Support reps seem to be able to get more info and have been very helpful.

Actually right now im thinking about not sending it in. and just buying a new hard drive. then sending it in in august when i dont need my computer all that much.
