Hey all I have K53sv with the optimus gt540m/intel whatever number gpu...

I have an issue where the laptop will not POST unless its plugged into an HD tv through the HDMI port. Doesn't matter what tv, and the tv doesn't even have to be on, just plugged into the wall. And if i fire it up, and then unplug the hdmi after POSTing, it will crash immediately.
I made a 2nd partition and loaded a fresh copy of windows 7, and it does the same thing! It's the nvidia driver, and doesn't matter how old or new, if I install it, it will crash. I uninstalled the nvidia driver and just kept the intel driver, and it works just fine, no issues.
    Anyone have ideas?

This is a new one... Is your BIOS up to date?

Yes. In fact, I've tried a few different versions with no luck.

It may be a video BIOS issue - but I've never heard of one doing this, specifically. Any chance you can send it in to Asus for inspection (even if out of warranty)?

This is somewhat a new issue which I have heard so far..My friend is using the same phone from long time and yes he bought it from T - dimension. I guess you should actually check two main things : Is the product original...or second is the BIOS updated or not??

No, I'm not going to send it in, it's not worth the money to me, as I have desktop as well as another laptop.
A little update- i found out it will boot and run with just a VGA cable hooked up. I decided to remove it after being on a few minutes, and it stayed working! I was able to play fallout 4, browse Internet, watch movies without any issues. I restarted it, but once again it will not boot without either VGA or HDMI hooked up.
I was thinking maybe the wall plug for the hdtv was being used as a ground, but now I'm not sure.
I did forget to mention it has had the power jack replaced, maybe a bad solder?

I doubt it's a solder job, but impossible to say for sure without looking at it.
