Anyone heard anything about this laptop?

    http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-k42jra1-p-2752.html

It seems like a pretty good balance of power / mobility. I don't really play games on my laptop but I do like having a capable system. Based on what I've read on the boards, people are more concerned with the N61JQ or the UL30.

I think the K series is asus's budget line so my only concern is about build quality/longevity. Does anyone have a K series laptop and, if so, are they pleased with it?

Yes, this looks like a pretty interesting & tempting unit for those considering a 17.3" LED around AUD$1300.

Er, I was mistakenly referring to the Asus K72JR here sorry.

Apparently they are due for release (in Australia) sometime during this February - hopefully this pushes the prices of some other similar older models down a bit.

Yes, this ASUS caught my eye. With the 520M option, I would really like it.

Now I have a 3 way tie for my purchase between Sony CW27, Lenovo Y550P, and this one. Problem is, this one is on pre-order! Can't wait much longer!

Questions: Does XoticPC really come through with that 15 day money back guarantee? No restocking fees?!?

Interesting. My girl friend's looking for a notebook University and this is certainly a worthy option. Seems like the middle ground between a netbook and a power notebook. Wonder what the price is going to be in Australia though....

I'm seriously considering this too. I like everything about it but am concerned about the processor being a bit slow and don't mind paying a bit more for a faster processor. I want something with a 14" screen and a video card, this pretty much fits the bill though better than anything else.

    1) If I get it from XoticPC and have them upgrade the processor to an i5-540 (or even i7-620) will that void ASUS's factory warranty, one of the primary reasons I buy ASUS is when my A8Js needed service I sent it in on Saturday and have it back on Tuesday, anything longer and I'd have to buy a new one for the interim?

    2) What will upgrading the processor do to battery life?

    3) Is it possible to get internal bluetooth (not just a USB adapter)?

    4) Do you think build quality will be comparable to my A8Js that's been going strong for 4 years now?

I just noticed that it's up on powernotebooks. I might consider this if the build quality is good.

    1. Your warranty on everything but the processor will remain intact.
    2. Your battery difference will likely be almost unnoticeable. Review the specs of the stock 430M and the 620M, they are both 35W CPU's
    3. Unfortunately Internal Bluetooth is not available.
    4. Since we have sold the A8JS years back from what I recall I assume based on other K Series laptops I have seen so far, that the build quality would be the same.

    Hm this verses the CW...

how does the ATI 5470 compare to the 330m in the CW?
And does it have a back lit keyboard?

Oh, just noticed the fail camera though =(
