Brand new F3Sv from a few days ago out of newegg. First thing I did was stick an extra gig of ram into it. Everythings been going great so far except for one big gaming problem. After playing maybe 10 mins of gaming some weird things start happening. The game will sort of alt-tab real fast exposing the title-bar hilight text in the upper left corner and relocating the cursor up there. Games then start running very choppy, when moving around or doing anything really the problem worsens. When I alt-tab out of the game, for a quick second before it switches I can see a black-ish text input thing in the upper-left corner of the screen, the text input field is filled with random chinese (I think) characters and stuff. Lots of beeping (vista error noise) when doing things in game when this is happening. If I right click on the desktop and press any button it will beep, and will sort of lock up if I hold a key...I tried to take a screenshot of the text input thing but I couldn't catch it in time. I went through all the services and processes running and everything looks legit.

    Here's my hijackthis :

I've messed with the video setting and stuff to try to fix it but to no avail, reinstalled all the ATK stuff because I assumed that was the problem, no luck either.

Pretty weird problem if I must say, any ideas?

I would try to uninstall any ASUS apps that are not necessary.

I agree that the top-left corner is used by the ATK utility e.g., to display volume up/down notifications.

Got a better look at the problem. It seems to be that the text input is freezing my game when i'm using keys. The keys I guess are inputting text into the field and is the reason the game loses focus. The input is a black rectangular box with a white text input area. Text is dark bold black. There's a green return like symbol to the right of the input field, must mean submit.

Deleted all unneccesary Asus apps and the problem still persists.

I know this is slightly off topic. but please update your cam drivers for your laptop. A lot of boot and shutdown problems stem from old cam drivers. Its a common problem with the f3 series.

Also..make sure to update your drivers keeping the cam manufacturer in mind

I think you are on the right track. ATK is the only utility that would clash with display resolutions that would be isolated on the Asus F3(I'm sure your other setups run the same utils ie; Razor hotkey, I hate this hotkey etc and have no problems), besides what your indicating sounds exactly like ATK screwing up entirely. I know this may sound nuts, but you might want to install an older version of ATK off of ASUS's support and download site.

New drivers and applications released by ASUS do not mean that they are superior, infact they are often buggy. Does this happen to all your games or just the one?

    Hi there
This is an old thread but I am replying here to help anyone else who runs into this problem with their ASUS laptops.

I am using an N50 VN notebook and I had this problem. After a certain time while playing games and pressing keyboard buttons, Vista would beep after every keystroke, which could be relieved by pressing ESC, but the problem would keep reappearing, including noticeable lag to the game.

Sometimes I noticed chinese characters would appear in front of the game on the top-left in an input window, and I realised this must be the cause of the problem.

This input window is Vistas language bar. It seems that my Vista came installed with this thing called 'Microsoft Pinyin IME 2007', which runs at startup. This is a service connected to a Chinese keyboard layout in the 'Text services and Input Languages' control panel. Remove this service, and the random chinese text and beeping and lag will disappear.

It seems this service by default has a global keyboard combination of CTRL+SPACEBAR to bring up the convert-to-chinese language bar, which must be causing all the problems; especially when gaming.

    Hope this helps someone.
