    Hi,
A few months ago i purchased a new laptop and replaced the hdd with a sdd. Everything went well as I migrated the data completely. However, every-time I start the PC I get a black screen during the bios and it remains black until the welcome screen where you log in. I've tried to search online but I can't seem to find anything that works. I don't really want to reset everything and reinstall Windows. For instance, a lot of people have been suggesting to turn off the PC, remove all the power sources and hold the power-up button for at least 20 seconds. I have tried this but unfortunately this didn't work for me.
Does anyone have any suggestions or any perhaps even knows why I get a black screen on boot? I really appreciate any help I can get.

    Thank you,

ps. I've tried both on battery as well as plugging it in but the problem still remains

    some info
PC: Asus A55 (close to k55)
    ssd: Samsung 830

It sounds like you are describing the splash screen. When you had the HDD did you see a splash screenn showing the ASUS logo? Enter your BIOS (f2 at startup) and see if there is an option to turn it back on.
Is the time from power on to getting to windows login unusually long?

Yeah, I think it did show up when I had the hdd because I remember not having any problems with it. Although, I had problems migrating the data to the ssd but I evenutally fixed that. Now it's just a black screen but everything else works perfectly. It boots on like 15 seconds and things run smoothly, altough I do get a few errors saying something about ATK 00100 driver and P4G not being able o run as it's "not an Asus-laptop" as soon as I logg on but I don't think that has anything to do with that. Do you think I'll be getting a screen in BIOS?

I just restarted the laptop and repeatedly pressed f2. The screen remained black so I knew that I was either in BIOS, but just didn't see anything, or I didn't enter BIOS and I just stopped it from starting by itself. Is it possible of getting a black screen in BIOS and still being able to run the PC well? Any more ideas?
btw thanks for helping me out

If your computer has switchable graphics maybe it is related to that. The only other thing I can think of is to attach an external monitor and try to enter BIOS, and If there are any settings to related to graphics and/or splash screen you may need to change them. I believe you are right about ATK and PG4.

It only has integrated graphics so I can't do that
ok, so if I attach another monitor I should check some settings in BIOS.
Well thanks for helping out. I'll try another monitor and hope for the best

I just connected an external minotor and I didn't even need to enter BIOS as everything worked perfectly. I tried with both plugged in as well as only battery and everything went well. However, the problem still remains on the laptop screen. Meening the ssd isn't fault and neither is the installation. Any ideas on what could be disrupting the laptop screen as it only has problems during boot?

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- It appears 407 is the current BIOS, have you ever updated it and did the issue start after a BIOS update? I am not saying this will fix it, the description for the various BIOS updates do not appear to address the problem. As long as you can get into BIOS via external monitor I would not worry too much. You do run the slight risk of bricking the computer due to a bad BIOS Flash.

    Glad to help !

Nope never done it before. Yeah, I felt relieved knowing that I can access the BIOS at least through an external monitor if things go south. I don't think that I will do much more with it though. Perhaps I'll later on visit the store where I purchased it from and ask for suggestions.
Anyway, thank you JOSEA for all your help :)

Hmm... and your laptop display is set as the primary display, right? You could try resetting your BIOS, but to a hard reset of it requires removing the CMOS battery, which entails voiding your warranty. Only other reset options are: remove SSD and see if it persists, and/or reset BIOS using the setup menu (load defaults).

Glad JOSEA was able to walk you through things. :)

Yep, it's the primary display. Hmm, as I'm not too technical either I'm not completely sure I should do that So it still could be the SSD? What if I check with the original hard drive and the problem still remains; could it be because of a faulty display? I can't do this right now, but perhaps during the week-end. As it's only a few months old, the warranty is still valid for another two years as well

    Thanks for your input :)

It really is a great forum with many helpful users. I was actually refered here by a friend, who he himself had gotten help from users here.

Yeah, it's not worth killing your warranty to hard reset the BIOS. For assurance sake, you could swap it for the other drive to test; sometimes adding new hardware yields some oddities. :)
