I just purchased the F3JP, waiting for it be shipped, and I want it to run very smooth. This is my first notebook/pc that I have ever bought so I want to make sure that I do everything right.

First, do I have to update drivers? If so do I just download all vista related drivers, or just specific ones? Once downloaded do the drivers install automatically or do I have to know where they go/ install them manually? Here is the list of drivers for the F3JP from the official Asus site..

Second, Programs. It's impossiable for me to ask about the programs that I should keep being that I don't have the system yet. The ones that do have this system can you make a nice little list of the programs that I should uninstall? The reason why I ask this is because I don't want a bunch of start up programs or anything else that I will not need, thanks.

Third, suggestions. Any other suggestions or help will be much appreciated. I'm sure there are more things to cover but this is all I can think of at this time.

I want the best experiance that I can get from my new machine without a hitch. Thanks

In terms of drivers... I don't see a reason why you should update any of the drivers unless you're experiencing sluggishness or problems. They should be the most updated drivers (from Asus' website) anyway.. so you shouldn't have to worry about that.

As for programs... it's really up to you. If you find the shipped programs useful, use them. Personally though, I'd uninstall any demo/trial software or other useless Asus programs that come with it.

    1. Its ok to have the latest drivers, but the stock drivers will work fine, if you feel the need to update, by all means do it. Most people update the VGA drivers.

    2. You will have the ability to remove programs from the startup, (Win+R), type "msconfig" and then uncheck the programs you don't want to have on startup, and or delete the icons in the startup folder.

You will want to remove, Asus Live update, Norton Antivirus, and instead get AVG Free for your anti virus, and Spybot S&D and then Adaware. There will be other programs you may find to be useless, like Splendid, Power4Phone, Net4Switch and others. This is up to you to remove if you want.

    3. Some people do a clean install of Windows Vista or XP...its depends on you, and whether you want to use XP or Vista and whether you want a clean install.

Other than that, enjoy it! :D

Nice, I was asking about the drivers because I thought I have seen post where people were having to update their video card drivers for catalyst or something like that.

It was premature to ask about what programs I should keep seeeing as I'm not sure what it's going to have, or what I will want use. Thankjs for the responces.

Does anybody have anything else that can be added? Any tips on how to get this thing to run like a champ? Thanks.

Thanks so much for this responce. I have just a couple questions. If I decide to update the drivers, do I do it all from the asus website, or will those allready be included on my machine? Also, a clean istall, what is the benefit of doing this and how do I do it? Thanks.

I'd also suggest Notebook Hardware Control, RMClock or a similar piece of software. That'll allow you to monitor temps and specify some speed steppings and voltages, which may help you get a bit more battery life/quieter and cooler running laptop.
