I just recently started having an issue with my video card in my c90s. I believe it's strickly the video card as I am having odd visual effects during boot up from the post screen to windows. Now this is one of those mxm-II video cards so does that fall on asus video card warrenty of 3 years or laptop warrenty of 1 year. I've had the thing for 13 months and haven't had an issue until this. Also, the video card is a 8600m GT 512MB DDR2. I took the card out and inspected it. It doesn't appear to have any damage to it and no burning smell. I reseated it and still have the same issue. I haven't upgraded the bios since I got it initially, so I don't think its an issue with that at all.

In these images the effects are scrolling and blinking(not static). The second image is actaully the windows xp safe mode selection screen. I can hit the up and down arrows to select differenct options, but from there it blue screens out(with effects) and I have to reboot.

    Thoughts.

I think your card may be dying! Go into bios straight after the asus logo spawns(hitf2) if you still have the crap on your screen in the bios its defintely as hardware problem. Send the laptop or card or both in to asus for replacement card. I never knew there was a 3 year warranty for the card that is good to know if mine craps out lol. Sorry to hear this has happened to you tho.

I don't think the C90 series has a 3 year warranty for any of their hardware, unless you specifically purchase the 3 year warranty from your reseller. Either way, it does look like you have a dying GPU and would need to be replaced.

Fuzzy screen can also be a sign of a failing power supply. So before sending it back start it up on battery when charged to cancel out the possibility.

The Bios gives a similar effect.

On Asus website it says "All Graphics cards are covered by a 3 year warranty". I bought the card from a totally different vendor so I'd think the card would fall under it's own warranty.

It does the same on battery as well.

Thanks all for the help. I just wanted to confirm my suspicions before calling asus that it's a GPU problem. I'm going to call the support line for graphics cards instead of notebook as it is a graphics card issue.

Oh, and does anyone know where I can get a 8600m GT 512mb card at? I haven't been able to find a single retailer that sells it anymore.

Don't bother buying the inferior DDR2 version. Get the 8600M GT 256MB DDR3 to replace it about 15-20% faster. Get the card from excaliberpc.com or gentechpc.com. They sell the 8600M GT ddr3 mxm 2 module officially built by asus for the C90S and C90P. I think they both charge $179.

Are the 256mb cards plagued with the driver issues that were around about a year ago, or are these new cards for the c90s/c90p?

i recently bought the ddr3 version from excaliberpc.com, since the ddr2 version also died on me. Used the drivers from nvidia website, so far no problems using it. Just buy the ddr3 version and it also comes with a 1 year warranty. U'll be fine.

I shall be doing the same as pogitz if its any consolation willizm unless asus bring out a newer card by summer for the C90P. Can always remain hopeful..

I wonder if any1 knows of any UK reseller of 8600M DDR3 or any other MXMII graphics the C90S supports.

I recently had to RMA my C90S for a failed 8600M/DDR2 and got a laptop back with a replaced MB and graphics. I got my failed graphics exactly a year after I boougth the laptop just like many other people so I insisted with Asus to know if they did anything during the repair to prevent me from having another failed graphics in another year (when my warranty finnally goes out).

I also noticed how I'm using some old (unheard of) BIOS, 0103 from 2007. Have you heard of this? Asus told me not to upgrade the BIOS unless I need to. What would that mean!?

I don't think there is a retailer in the UK but both Gentechpc and excaliberpc both sell the card to overseas customers. The card costs 179 usd at both websites.

You don't need to get a new motherboard. Changing out the graphics card is very simple even for someone not particularly computer hardware savvy like me thanks to the mxm module.

As for prolonging life purchase a decent cooler. I recommend the NZYT Cryo LX. Although expensive it is the best cooler for the C90S. As I type my GPU is sitting at 59C(no mods to case) and its been on for hours.

Download CPU-Z and let us know what motherboard details you have. Go to the mainboard tab then take a screenshot and post it up.

This is what I get on CPU-Z

I never checked CPU-Z before but it doesn't seemed that they changed the MB model.

about the cooler, I've always used a akasa laptop cooler with 2 fans and aluminium body. I might not be as good as the NZYT but I not sure how much more effective a external cooler can be without the case mod.
