The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Season's Greetings All (Again):

As I posted in another thread, this was my week off so I apoligize that for not being around.... but anyone that needs (or wants) to reach me is always welcome to email or IM.. I'm just trying to chill this week after the crazy holiday buying season and then the drama that comes with family gatherings.. I'm just vegetating and playing PS3 like a teenager... and it feels fantastic. :) I'll be back to work this time next week and won't be around much, if at all till then..hence the letter below:

The forum has again transformed into so many different shapes this year as it has in years past. It's just more proof that this community is a living, breathing, creature that craves attention and needs to be molded into the right form. I hope that I helped in even the most minute way as I shared my Asus knowledge with all that seeked it out. It's been a roller coaster of a year for myself - both personally and professionally, PROPortable, for this forum, for Asus, and even just the mobile computing market on a whole.

The new year will bring many new things as it always does. Don't expect 2007 to be as crazy as 2006 either. The big breakthrough this past year is a change we'll only see once every 5 years or so. Swapping from the old standards of single to dual core CPU's and then from 32 to 64bit was THE big change that supposedly renders everything prior obsolete. If you made it through with a system from last year, your sky probably hasn't yet fallen. The changes we saw this year are about as bad (or as good) as it gets, so you should be able to buy with confidence because Santa Rosa is going to be a mild model refresh compared to the changes we saw in 2006. The new chipset which will launch probably at the end of March, early April will kick start the new model year, but for the first time in a long time we had absolutely new models that were released in December. These models won't be "refreshed" until probably June or July, so anyone looking for one of these new models shouldn't think they'll be "outdated" or replaced shortly, but like everything in this world, they will be "refreshed" and that certainly shouldn't be a secret - especially in this world where a "model year" is typically 4-5 months at best.

We all seem to have made it through 2006 unscathed, so we should all relax, regroup, and coming out swinging in January as the new year unfurls. So on behalf of PROPortable and as the senior member of the NBR Asus family, have a safe and happy new year and love live NBR~

    warm wishes,
    Justin

Optimistic? There's still a few days left in 2006; you never know what might happen.

    Blessed New Year to you!!
