Please do spare a moment in your life time to help a first gaming notebook consumer:

First question, to anyone had any sort of experience with a G1s backpack:
What's the backpack like? Is it big? Padded? Lots of pockets? Durable? I'm sure it dosen't really look good so don't comment on that please.

Second question, to anyone had any sort of experience with the G1s backpack and the Shinza backpack:
Would you perfer the Shinza backpack over the G1s back pack?

Third question, to anyone had any sort of experience with the Shinza backpack:
Does the G1s archuly fit into the Shinza backpack. Sounds like a stupid question but i just checked the dimenstions and it dosen't seem going to fit...

Fourth, last question and the most important question, to anyone had any sort of BSOD(Blue.Screen.Of.Death) experience with the G1s:
Lets say i want to undervolt my G1s and unfortunately got a BSOD. How can i restore it to factory set settings??

Thankyou for your time. Rep would be given to the most helpful reply.

The backpack is a re-branded Targus. It's pretty big and the notebook compartment is padded. I take it to college every day and it has hardly any wear and tear. On that note, it has enough pockets/space for me to take everything I need (Books, Paper, Pens, etc).

I get the occasional BSOD on my G1S but it's not really a regular occurrence. Most just from bad drivers, etc.

If you use RMClock to under-volt you can just reset RMClock to defaults, or use the registry file included to wipe your settings.

No idea about the Shinza backpack.

Also if you haven't already purchased your G1S, I strongly urge you to reconsider due to various problems. The biggest one is heat causing the GPU to stutter. (Various threads about it in this forum).

About the undervolting, if it BSODs then the voltage settings will not be saved anyway. :) Check the undervolting guide for further details.

Like Johnny said, you can use the recovery CD to set the G1S back to factory settings or use the recovery partition to do that too.

I am not saying he should get the G1S but thats his decision, i know that because I have tried to get him not to buy it. ;) But abit more details on your explanations (''various probolems'') are always good. The over heating problem can be sorted out anyway. :)

Well isn't there no more problems other than the overheating problem??? I think i can solve that with undervolting and using a cooling pad.....
Anything on the Shinza stuff would be helpful.

I'm using it and school and i will only move it around for either really short dietances(down the corridor to another dorm) or put it in a backpack and take it on the plane to home....
So weight wont be a big issue....I suppose taking a laptop onto a plane is a painful thing while not on the plane yet but everything i lug around with me is either really light(carry nothing or really heavy(airsoft rifle i just got today...)
I dont care about battery life cauz i wount really use it on the plane anyways and i use it mostly plugged so not a proplem to me...
Size: Well if it fits in a backpack i suppose that i can lug it around... I having a 13inch to 15inch jump so thats what i'm expected....
SO ya not much of a problem at all.....
On the overheating note that i'm worried about most, would undervolting and using a cooling pad a good way to solve the problem??? Well would it solve the problem efficteftly?? I might change cooling paste later but it all depends if u can produce the photos...
I just got my first razer product today- razer death adder(mac version) I was a bit dissapointed that the light was white cauz it's mac version i guess but it was the only one left in the whole comupuer center.... Well the white light is kinda ok i suppose but it's still cool.
Thanks fot the comments guys. Getting the G1s hopefully this weelend... Btw i'm getting the "newest model acoddering to the salesmen form the shop" it had a 320GB HD but i dont know rpm...(any idea plz tell me),
GF 9500GS(512MB and gddr3 right?)(die shrink version of GF 8600GT(gddr3)) and 2.5Ghz CPU. All for $12930, sems to me a decent price. I think it's the new ASUS G1sn-X1.

Let me sayone thing, since I've owned a G1s since it launched last year. I have had no over heating problems. Those guys who are complaining about it iether have had a faulty laptop, or are trying to overclock it too much, etc. The G1s on default gets hot, but nothing over 100 C period.

I do have one major regret about buying the laptop, its that its battery life sucks, and it's not a small laptop. It's quite chunky compared to most 15.4" laptops, though it is light. My next laptop will be much smaller at the 13.3" range.

Thanks. Few questions: when you game on it dose it have stuttering issues when temp reaches over 96C??

And one thing i'm going to say... I am defenetely not going to overclocking my G1s so there won't be such a big heat issue for me.... My worst nightmare is that it stutters in games.....

alston, its not just overheating, its BOILING.

playing a not so graphic intensive game and getting from 0 to 110 celcius in a matter of minutes just screams defective.

plus i bet this is tied with the nvidia fiasco. search google for "nvidia defective g84"

as much as you want it (sounds like as much as i wanted it, i bought 2 of them after the first was defective), stay away from it

I was really recommending that he do his own research so that he will decide of his own accord. People are unlikely to listen when they decide on something and someone tells them "don't buy it, it has x problems".

Care to mention how the heating problems can be solved? Dismantling the laptop and replacing the thermal paste with arctic silver? (thereby voiding your warranty and taking a very large risk) Using it on a cooling pad like and not moving it? These are not "solutions".

I guess it's the OPs money and if he wants to buy the G1S, it's his call.

Just because YOU personally don't have a problem doesn't mean they don't exist. That fact is that the G1S cooling system is just plain inadequate. Due to the faults in the 8600M GT (See the thread in the gaming section) the stuttering effect kicks in at 96C. Or at least that is the best explanation we have at this point. Even a quick Google will show you that many many people have reported the same problems with the G1S on many websites/forums/blogs. Even if it doesn't go over 100C, 96+ is still enough to trigger the stuttering effect. Just wait and see, when nVidia actually stops hiding the information and it comes out, the 8600M GT will be on the list of affected GPUs (which other sites, and allegedly ASUS itself has already reported).

Alston, please avoid any notebook that comes with the 8600 GPU. It will only cause yourself unnecessary trouble in the future, especially when it's been announced that the 8xxx series cards are faulty. If you insist on getting a G1 series notebook, opt for the G1Sn (comes with a 9500m GS). It's performance will be similar to the 8600, and has no overheating issues.
