    As title says

I found 4 7800 modules on ebay for 50$. I'm considering purchaseing them and trying them out in my C90s and maybe just seeing how much they can take and if they'll even work. I know they're probably mxm type 3 but I can't help but wonder what my performance gains will be over the stock 8600gt. I would also like to do this to help out people who are having difficulty finding a ddr3 module.

I have one request though - I can't find this one website that rated all the current notebook gpus into 3 categories and had fairly detailed histories and performance specs on each one. I know there's one in this site but it's not what I'm looking for. It was a seperate website with I believe red font. If anyone can point me to them that would be greatly appreciated.

Also if anyone has any stories to share about this upgrade so that I know already if it won't work or if it does work that would be an even bigger help

According to http://www.mxm-upgrade.com it wont work. The Go 7800 from the Alienware Area-51 m5700 is MXM type 3. The Asus C90s takes MXM type 2 cards. The difference between Type 2 and type 3 is the size(type 3 is bigger/wider) and "thermal capabilities(the Asus C90s MXM slot will not be able to handle a Type 3 card which will produce too much heat and take too much power).

And according to the "big chart" in the Mobile Graphic Info page/thread) the 8600m GT(DRR2 and DRR3) will give you more performance .

Hmmmm, I found the website I wanted ( www.notebookcheck.net) and they confirmed what had been stated that yes the 8600gt is the better card. But the MXM website tells of an MXM I / II notebook being fitted successfully with an x1900 MXM formfactor III card. - http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/Table.html

Look at the Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo A1667

    topic on upgrade on LV2go
    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=16314

So either the table on the site is wrong by a lot, the x1900 is really MXM II, or MXM III cards can be used in MXM II notebooks provided they have proper cooling and power...

YUp the 8600M GT is better than the Go 7800. The Go 7800 and Go 7600 are based on the 7600GS & 7800GS.

Also for whatever reasons, the Go 7700 is slower than the Go 7600GT
