    Hello,

Trying to decide on the above, any thoughts would be helpful.
Also would like to add an external TV tuner.

    Thanks

From the design and "quality" point of view the apple is just a marvel. Everything about it speaks quality. Other then that the g71g is obviously alot less expensive, includes a very generous warranty, noticeably more powerful particularly with games, offers dual hard drives. Really if you have no budget, like quality, dont game and like the mac os then the mac book is the best laptop in the market always. there is no other brand that competes. They are kind of like the ferari of all laptops minus the speed. Design wise and and aesthetics is what apple does. Asus also has their place there however lately they have been concentrating on power and price rather then design which is where they got their name.

I would say it's the quality of the build and its reliability that makes it great and not the specs, as suggested.

I also have a chance to get a Gateway 7805u from Best buy. They said they would check it for the high res screen before I purchase.

Simple. If you want to game, go for the G71g. If not, go the G71g.

    Funny... :)
I guess you mean G71 all the way.
The G50VT-A2 would save me about 300 dollars.

I just purchased an HP m9515y at Best Buy, but I think I would rather have a laptop that I could use as a desktop.

the G50VT is also a good choice. It's kinda big for a 15-16 inch notebook, but it's also the only notebook in its class to hold two hard drives in addition to an optical drive for better productivity.

Depends. The macbook pro is about .7" thinner, couple kilos lighter and looks much more elegent. You gotta look at the MBP's pros too, before flaming its price and specs.
