I'm planning to replace my primary work laptop (a V1S) very soon, and I have bought a few G51s from BestBuy (for testing reasons) and I have to say I'm loving that laptop, but the budget specs won't cut it for me. The A1 sounds good, but I was wondering whether there were any confirmed specs/dates for the G60? Aside from the bigger screen in the same chassis, what's different?

haha, a "few" G51s? What exactly do you do as far as testing to give you such a budget?

Videogame middleware :D. DX10, GL3 and CUDA. The G51s have high specs (so unoptimized builds run reasonably), are quite cheap and easy to move around to demo something in the meeting room.

Sounds pretty awesome, I think we'd like to hear some details...

But for now, I don't think anyone knows about the G60. It definitely seems weird that they would have a laptop that is exactly the same as the G51 but with only .4 extra diagonal inches of screen size, so chances are it's going to have it's own unique reseller stock specs, but I definitely haven't heard anything yet.

I would be really happy if they had it with the same specs as the RX05, but with Bluetooth and a higher-clocked dual core processor, and had the price just in between the G51VX-RX05 and the G51VX-A1 and priced to match in between also.

I don't see anything budget about it except the processor and resolution. It's a nice laptop just bought it the other day.

No RAID, and the fact that anything < 1680x1050 is practically unusable for me makes the Best Buy model a bad idea. If it suits you, however, it's the best bang for the buck. I use it for testing because most of the code I work on runs @ 1280x720.

I wonder if one could buy the A1 screen and put in one of the RX05 models??? Hmmmmm.....

Are you saying the RX05 doesn't support RAID even if you put in a second drive?

I've done it on a dell 9400.. pretty much plug and play. Although, Asus makes their own components.. it IS assembled at some point. If they made a different proprietary connector for the same Video Card, that would not make much sense.. to keep costs down on saving custom parts.

Of course not. If you can find a drive exactly matching the one you currently have, then sure it'll work. It's not a matter of can't, more a question of convenience.

Well you did say "No RAID", so you could have been suggesting that the on board controller did not support it. Better to say "comes stock with only one HDD" if that's what you're complaining about.
