When asking around about laptops someone said to buy the G51 instead of the 71. Is the G51 better? The G71 costs less and has a better hard drive and more ram

They are of very similar performance with the G71 probably a little bit better.

Thus, make your decision based on your mobility and aesthetic needs.

To add what TevashSzat said, if you'll be running any VMs or editing large image files, the additional ram slot and larger screen resolution in the G71 would help immensely. However, if you're only looking for gaming performance, the difference will be negligible.

I'll think I'll go with the G71 since it's more bang for my buck

The G71 also has a fairly more amount of room to help distribute the heat out of the laptop.

Actually, the G71 does not have better cooling than the G51. In fact, it might even be slightly worse. Have no idea how that happened.....

Really? Wow Asus is really messing up the cooling on their newer laptops

Not necessarily, since the RX05 is stripped of all of its extras, which the X1A will come with, such as the warranties and accessories.

I was debating on this same thing last week but decided on the X1A because the screen on the RX05 is pretty bad. I was at BB and the viewing angles were simply horrible. Plus you could always expand the ram on the X1A if you really needed more but unless youre doing some modeling with like 3ds max or something 4 gigs should be fine. plus the backlit keyboard and led backlit screen are nice

Having had both, I slightly prefer the X1A.

The G51 also comes with a better, backlit keyboard.

Yeah. It's that important. I don't know how I ever dealt with the G50 keyboard.

Thanks for all the input guys. Think I'm going with the X1A. Now just need to convince my mom to let me borrow around $100

The keyboard does feel amazing. It is a bit flimzy though.

Flimsy in the sense that it flexes a bit, I guess. I guess I'm an oblivious typer, since I haven't noticed anything negative about it.

It has a wonderful feel, though.

Honestly a keyboard is such a small thing to obsess about. Plus I like a bit of a bend in a keyboard feels better on the fingers

How bad are the heat problems on the G51? Are they bad enough to need to get a cooler? I am planning on some overclocking and definitely gaming. Would i be better off with the G71?

Both the G51 and the G71 get fairly hot, so pick your poison.

If you want to go with Asus, don't go for the G71GX - it's been upped to $1300 from $1149 at Best Buy - Giant ripoff!
Grab the G51VX my friend, it's only been upped once and still is the same price as of now.

Otherwise, my opinion is to dump Asus and go for MSI like I'm doing now (use to want the Asus G71GX but Best Buy has killed that idea)...

Yeah I just saw that price raise. Guess I'm going G51.
