Does anyone have problem with their HDMI connection to TV?
My HDMI connection seem like not working.
I have already tried updating the video card driver, chipset driver, restart both TV and laptop while the cable in plugged in, tested the HDMI cable by plugging with a PS3 to the TV.

Can any G51JX users here who have no problem with their HDMI connection to TV answer a few enquiries of mine?

    1) Can the TV display my desktop using HDMI connection for normal Windows operation, not playing movie.
    2) In Device Manager, what is the name for the HDMI driver? Cos the closest driver name I have is HD Audio Controller under my Sound, Video and Game Controller and System Devices.
    3) When HDMI cable is plugged in with the TV connected, does the laptop have any notification sound like the sound when USB memory stick is plugged in? Mine got no sound which seem like the HDMI connector on my laptop is disabled.

Pls help me as my new G51JX seem to have a lot of problems!!!

I have no problems with HDMI on mine.

    1) Yes
    2) It's the nVIDIA Driver (NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M)
    3) No, you have to press Fn+F8 to toggle screen output.

    Thanks for your reply...
Can you assist me to write the steps on how to extend your display to the TV using HDMI. I just want to confirm my step is correct. Anyway my step are:
    1) Make sure the TV is on.
    2) Plug in the HDMI cable on the TV and the laptop while both machine is on.
    3) By right by now my laptop should detect the TV and I just have to use Fn+F8 to switch the display. But my laptop is unable to detect.
    4) So I off the TV and on it again.
    5) Still no detection, so I went to the nVidia control panel to force detect and reboot the laptop. Still no detection.

I have tested the cable and TV by plugging the PS3 and it is working.

Hmm, that's strange. Maybe you can try turning on your TV with the HDMI in both laptop and TV while the laptop is off, then booting up the laptop. My laptop is able to output HDMI even at BIOS.

    Are you using Vista/Windows 7?

when you plug in the HDMI cable you should hear the same sound you hear when you plug in a USB device.

there isn't any "driver" for the hdmi as that is run off the video card driver.

anyways when you plug it in you should hear the "Ding".

if you don't hear the ding then the laptop isn't detecting the display, from there its just testing.. does the laptop display on other HDMI/DVI devices?

    does the vga output work?

if you go under Screen Resolution (Right click Desktop) there should be the option for 2 monitors it will also be there under your nvidia control panel/Change Resolution section.

if it isn't there it isn't detecting it.

i would try and reset the TV (unplug from power) and try a new HDMI cable. Maybe test the VGA output and verify that is working.

Which Television do you have? Maybe some odd detection problem with HDCP.I am not sure if there are HDCP checks just for connectivity. I know some old Sony's will not recognize the input if the other end(handshake) isnt HDCP compliant.

I know you have tried a lot of things. And in the myriad of stuff you have tried I have another handshake method for you to try.

1.Unplug both the TV and computer from power completely. If your battery is in the laptop remove it.

2.Then plug in the HDMI cable to both units while they are powered down.

3.Turn on the TV first and the Computer second.

4.Right click on your desktop-->personalize-> display-> adjust resolution->click detect. If nothing comes up then I'm at a loss and i would say to dump the nvidia driver you downloaded off the web and load the stock driver from your drivers disc. Then try those steps again. After that maybe consider purchasing a new HDMI cable? I'm not sure if there is much truth to the cables themselves being compliant with 1.4 and being backwards compatible. I know the cable industry wants you to think so, but either way make sure to have one that at least says it works with 1.4 and older.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for all the suggestion, I think i did enough troubleshooting and the only issue only tested is whether it is a hardware issue or the cable issue. Cable should be fine as it works with PS3. Anyway most slightly I will bring to the local service centre to test it out.
I am not willing to go to the service centre is because i don't trust the service centre where i am in right now. I bought the laptop in SG and i currently attached overseas for a year. But I think I leave with no other choice.

Try another cable..Peter (cazaphract I think) had an issue with his early on and it turned out to be a cable. His cable worked fine with another device just not the laptop, he got a different cable and all was good. if you look deep into the original G51JX thread you will see his discussion on it.
