    Hi all!

Noticed something irritating when idling on the desktop, i.e. when the clocks are 216, 432, 120. When my gpu temp goes down to 46c, the fan shuts off completely (nothing coming from exhaust), after a while the temp slowly rises to 60c, then the fan turns on very low and the temp goes back down to 50c then after a while it goes down to around 46c again and the cycle repeats.

I think this problem exists coz my T9600 idles so low ~ 30c, i.e. if the cpu idled higher then I'm guessing the fan would always be on at least very low like when the P7350 was in...

Is this a problem? I'm worried because I read heat cycling is not good for a gpu...

Is there any way to control the fan manually?

    Thanks.

my fan doesn't even turn on til 65, at idle you shouldn't have a fan on at all @46-55c even in my stock system I'd stick at 45c and my fans would be off, and my CPU idled at 27c. No, you can't change your fans manually, but I have a feeling your system is clocking up and then back down, and its not a fan issue.

It's not clocking up and down according to riva tuner, It's hard to believe your fan doesn turn on until 65, i can always feel heat with some degree of force from the exhaust port (usually) this means the fan must be on at least very low right, but yea its a strange issue, will probably get stranger once i get a cooler

You may be able to use Notebook Hardware Control ( http://www.pbus-167.com/) to force your fans to run a little faster all the time if it would make you more comfortable, but your notebook is safe as is. Even 65 C is well within normal operating temps, and that 20 degree cycle variation should not harm your system.

Eleison- we've tried everything. speedfan, manual dsdt.asl modding, NHC, and others, and none will work because of the way asus designed it. and armjay- I Can see, physically, with the modded hole on the bottom of my system that NO FAN IS ON at those temperatures. if you're feeling heat its purely ambient from the system. the fan might turn on at 65c and then shut off when it gets low- but its going HIGH because its clocking up. rivatuner has never been accurate for me in measuring the clocks on my 260m, use GPU-Z.

I believe it is kind of healthy, since your idle temp is lower than most people.
My older Asus notebook worked the same as yours: fan started at :60C and stopped while 50C...the faith of Asus!??
