Sort of off topic but recently I have been going back and forth with ASUS and MSI for a newer gaming laptop and one thing has got me confused, both models have a 9800 MGS GPU but the ASUS has 512MB DDR3 video memory and the MSI has 1GB DDR3 video memory, so
    1. Is the 1GB GPU better than the 512MB card?
2.Are they different versions of the same card? They both have DDR3.
3.Do you get an increase in FPS with the 1 GB card?
So if any of you owners can give me your opinion it would be great.
These laptops are pretty evenly matched in price, obviously you get a better CPU with the ASUS but you do get BD with the MSI that looks very enticing.
But if I decide to buy either a CPU upgrade would be in the future.

I think the cores are the same for both cards, with just different memory amounts. Afaik you need more VRAM the higher the resolution, in order to store the texture maps. But I'm not sure if 1GB is overkill for 1680x1050....beyond a certain point having an excess of VRAM makes no difference.

If you are going to do a CPU upgrade in the future, you might as well go for the BD, since the extra 0.13 GHz would make little noticeable difference.

Well for me anyway anything over 1680x1050 on a 15.4" laptop is a bit to much, so Delta in your opinion the cards perform the same?

Well, I'm not sure about the MSI, but many of the ASUS GS cards are actually downclocked GTS cards that can be flashed back to GTS speeds.

It is probably not going to be making much of a difference but I suspect the casual buyer will be mostly unaware of it and more focused on the extra ram as a nice little bonus.
