Hey everyone! I have narrowed my laptop choices to the two mentioned above. I like the price tag of the x5 but i am not a big fan of the flames/lightning on the back. I also want to know what exactly is the difference between the x1 and the x5? Is the X1 worth 50 dollars more?

As far as I remember, X1 has the faster processor where the X5 has long lasting battery. The rest is the same I believe. Altho other small thingies include the LED colors, I think X5 is white where X1 is all blue leds.

Either version is awesome, and the difference in processor is only 200mhz I think. Choose the one that appelas to you the most :)

you can later upgrade the CPU anyways :p I am modding mine when warranty expires-- gonna get a 3ghz CPU and mode the case to OC the 9800m to near 280M clocks :D

The X5 uses faster RAM according to the BB site, the X1 has a better CPU, and the HDD is faster on the X5 but other than that they are just about identical except for the lid design.
Good luck trying to find a X1 since they are being phased out, they might be available in your area, but I checked everywhere in my area with no luck

The X1 uses the same RAM and hard drive as the X5, BB's site is full of errors.

I think that the X6 is the replacement for the X1. The main difference here is that the X6 has a better video resolution (1680x1050) and has the new body color (such as the A1-A2-B1 models).
Both X6 and X5 have newer processors, a little bit faster, but more important, more cache (3mb vs 2mb on the X1).

You can find the X6($1,299) and X5($1,099) at Newegg. Otherwise, If your willing to go for the X1($949), you can find it as a outlet item on Best Buy.
Sure, it always depends on your budget, but since your spending around $1,000/$1,100 it think it is worth going for the X6, you´ll have to pay an extra $200 but have a more updated model, or the X5, that was one of your choices...

PS: For both X6 and X5 I think is it worth comparing all Asus retailers. You might find some better offers...

The difference in performance between the X1 and X5 will be negligible, although the 9 cell battery in X5 will provide another couple hours of battery life. I would say go for whatever color you like most if you don't care about the battery.

    The P8400 in the X1 has a 3MB cache, not 2MB.

And this will make the difference if battery is important to you.

My mistake, CA36GTP... I said based on this info from Best Buy website...

    # Intel® Centrino® 2 processor technology with interrelated Intel® Core™2 Duo processor P8400
Intel® PM45 chipset, 802.11a/b/g/n network connection and extended battery life capability.
    # The next-generation Intel® Core™2 Duo processor
Based on the innovative Intel® Core™ microarchitecture, so it runs faster and is more energy-efficient for cooler, quieter operation.
    # 4GB PC2-5300 DDR2 memory
For multitasking power; 1066MHz frontside bus, 2MB L2 cache and 2.26GHz processor speed.

Anyway, those websites always confuse uses...

    That is a important point.
I´m on my way to order my A2 model, and I´ll have a extra 9cell battery...

Yea, Best Buy's listing for the X1 has at least 3 or 4 errors on it. I guess actually knowing anything about the product you're selling isn't all that much a priority to them.
