you didnt get the accidental plan from best buy did you? if so, you can get it replaced. if not, maybe send it to asus, but you'll have to pay for it

I think any 15.4" LCD WSXGA+ screen would work.

    I thought the X5 is a 15.4"... i might be mistaken though....

However, i wouldn't recommend a 1920x1200 resolution on a 15 incher screen. All text and images will be so small and will only add stress to your eyes if you're using your notebook for long periods of time. Stick with a 1680x1050.

My mistake its a 1920x1080 and yea I know how small everything is going to be my past notebooks had 1920x1200 lcds in them, I was planning on reducing the reso and keeping it high for gaming. The g50vt-x5 is 15.6 inches and the screens are manufactured by a company call Chi Mei. I'm probably going to try the 1920x1080 if I can't find a 1680x1050 anywhere.

ive wondered if it would be possible to install a better screen.

note: 1920x1080 will preserve your aspect ratio of 16:9 that your stock screen has 1366x768. 1680x1050 or 1920x1200 screens are a 16:10 aspect ratio and may not fit or may require special brackets and/or screen plastics for trim.

    anyone else care to comment?

yea I know thats why I corrected myself. I found the 1920x1080 screen that should fit perfectly. I'm looking for a 1680x1080 screen right now. I cant seem to find it.

The G50 has the 1 year accidental coverage, just send it to Asus and get it fixed for free.

he has the X5, which means it was sold/purchased from best buy, which means it does NOT carry the accidental warranty from Asus. best buy purchases them from Asus w/o the accidental warranty 1. to get a cheaper price, and 2. because they sell their own accidental warranty.

Ahh well this is one reason to get direct from an Asus dealer.

They have the leading warranty over all notebook manufactures, why not get it?

I guess you kinda got boned motok :p (pun intended :D)

LMAO yes it was karma at its fullest o_O. It's ok though I can deal with the tiny dot on the screen until I come up with $200 for the screen plus I get a nice reso upgrade also. Sad thing is now the x9100 has to be held off a bit longer >_>

im glad i purchased mine from best buy and not asus.

i could see it in person
to add 1 yr accidental protection was 80 dollars
due to the agreement between best buy and asus i get a replacement in-store rather than waiting for one to get shipped
price/performance is great on the best buy model. and it comes with a better battery
and i still spent under 1k on it.

Keep us posted on whether or not this is compatible. I would love a screen upgrade, it's the only thing that's really terrible about the G50vt-X1.

So the 1920x1080 screen is matte...Any opinions on that? I never really owned a matte screen but I heard it makes the quality look pretty bad.

I personally favor matte screens due to reduced glare. However, at least on ASUS, the glossy screens do indeed tend to be brighter and have better contrast. Although, this may simply be because matte screens are older; current-generation matte might equal the brightness and contrast quality of glossy screens; I couldn't say for sure.

Wait... with Chi Mei and Optronics supplying the G50's, does this mean we can use different screens? What screens are compatible?

If we can play around with brands maybe there's something different than a matte 1920x1080. Strangely enough, both Chi Mei and Optronics offer just glossy 15.6" 1366x768 and the matte 1920x1080.

Maybe one owns the other who knows. I'd really rather not go for the matte though. I'm still trying to find a 16:9 1920x1080 glossy screen.

Motok, if you do get the 1920x1080 would you lmk how much more expensive it is? The website doesn't give a price on that one, but I may eventually want to upgrade...

I meant to send this this morning. Dont forget if you switching to the 1680x1050 screen this requires the change of several other parts including the inside bezel which is NOT the same ofcourse.

It fits the bezel. All the screens from Chi Mei fit if they are 16:9. Same screw positions, etc..

1680x1050 is not 16:9 whats the res?

EDIT - I see your shooting for a 1920x1080, there is a 15.3 inch version of this? Thats the reported size of myne anyways ive yet to take a tape measure to it.

What are you talking about. Read the post. I'm looking at either a 1920x1080 which is made by chi mei(same company that makes the g50vt screens and many other laptops screens such as the clevo np series) or a 1680x1050( not 1680x1050 i corrected this before if you had read the post) if I can find one. Both are 16:9.

Fitting is not a problem at all. Problem is making sure that the 1920x1080 matte screen is a weak or strong matte.

Or do you mean 1920x1080 and in reverse? 1680x1050 is 16:10 my T220HD is that res and 16:10 and the G50 1680x1050 is a 16:10.
    1680/1050, 1280/800 = 1.6
    1920/1080, 1366/768, 1280/720 = 1.7777777ish

Forgive me im soo bored, nothing new to review today lol :p

    Yes but you said
    then corrected to
and it still doesnt make sense unless you meant 1920x1080 anyways when i edited that one post i had relooked the thread over.

Once you get it back together try that cpu genie out, im messing with it now wish rmclock would get their act together. The new cpu is causing the gpu to get hotter during games that use the cpu enough so i think i am in need of an undervolt. This app allows for alot more control of the multiplier states too.

    1. 1366x768
    2. 1680x1080

Yeah I havent done a full 2 races yet but with the undervolt it seems to be helping did a 3 lap race didnt go over 86C.

I wouldn't also call it overheat 110 seems to be the thermal max so 93C isn't technically all that bad just more then i want. Before the cpu swap and AS5 (ive redone the AS5 used a razer to thin it this time) I wasnt getting more than 85C off cooler 80C on cooler never test it with the undervolt.

I think the one guy who is having issues right now said his never got over 93 before and he had a T9400 which would put out the same heat at load. Hard to day at the moment I will keep testing the minimum voltage and wait for the AS5 to fully break in to be sure of the temps.

yea that as5 takes like 200 hours to fully break in i heard. MY gpu with my oc now gets up to 88C. Worries me because I here the laptop fan struggling lol. Hopefully the laptop cooler will help out along, I am questioning which cpu to get now though. Did you happen to test your 3dmark score with your cpu?

......look at my sig silly lol

The fan shouldnt be struggling though the 4100-4200 top that ive gotten is plenty audible. Not sure of the fans actual maximum speed however my rule is to never run a fan past 90% of its duty cycle to prevent it from wearing out. Cant do much with the laptop. Fan usually only kicks into that speed range when the gpu is 75C or over though letting the cpu sensor manage the fan in the bios might let it kick in when the cpu gets hot i do not know.

I highly, highly, highly (get it?) doubt that a panel of different resolution and proportion will fit. It is not as simple as a drop in installation. Each panel has it's own driver hardware, plus the interface between the mainboard and the panel may be specific to the size that was originally installed. Play it safe and just buy an identical replacement, otherwise be prepared to spend 150-200$ on an expensive paperweight.

I speak from personal experience in the matter.
