    Hello everyone,

I am more than likely going to get the ASUS G50VT-A1 when it comes available from Gentech; however, I am worried about the keyboard, lag, and headphone issues that the G50V has. Does anyone know if the G50VT are also plagued by these issues, and if they are, if there is any permanent solution to them offered by ASUS? I was reading through the threads regarding the G50V issues and there were solutions posted for them, but for the most part, they seemed to only fix the problem for some of the people plagued by them, and at the same time, it ended up requiring those people to disable some of the ASUS functionality. I would really like to get a notebook that will not have these problems as it will be serving as both my gaming and homework computer and I would like the ability to have the trackpad to automatically disable itself when I plug in a mouse. I read in one thread that ASUS had come up with a solution via a new BIOS firmware and ATK drivers, but my concern is that since the G50VT uses a different motherboard, the BIOS most likely won't be able to be used on it.

    Thanks in advance,
    Matrinix

no new technology is immune to bugs and issues.

so if you are early adopting, you must expect some issues (hopefully minor ones).

I understand that, but if the bugs do indeed occur and it is the same bugs that are occuring in the older version (G50V) then it is more than likely not just a coincidence and possibly caused from the same source, and as such, a solution that fixes the problem in the older version will more than likely fix the problem in the newer version if it can be applied to the newer version. What I am wondering is if anyone knows if ASUS was able to pinpoint the problem, and fix it with the G50VT revision or if the problems still occur and if they do, if anyone knows how to fix them based on experience with the G50V.

Were there about 50,000 posts from people with bugs? Because I would guess they have sold that many. A few people can be very vocal and for all you know they could be idiots around computers and not know how to config their PC properly. Take the sqeaky wheels with a grain of salt.

    (two cliches in one sentence!)

Your only recourse is to wait a few months and see what happens with this model if you are really concerned. I don't know if anyone can answer your question except Asus (if there are issues they will already know about them).

If you have a Best Buy near you, buy the X1 there and test the unit out thoroughly prior to the 14 return period expiring. That's what I would do. If you have a good one, upgrade the parts to make it a A1 class. But frankly I don't think it will be worth the upgrade as the standard X1 variant should perform very well.

I'm not entirely sure what you are saying, are you basically saying that my mileage will vary, and that what bothers some people has no conflict with others? And that the people that are bothered by it may just not be doing something right? Or that they may be reading something into nothing?

If that's not what you meant, I appologize for reading into what you say incorrectly. I will be buying a notebook within the next 2-3 months and the G50VT looks like the notebook I want, my main concern is just that there are people complaining about those issues and if I hadn't of known about them, I may have never had noticed them, but now that I do know about it, it could very well possibly bother me where it wouldn't have if I hadn't known about it... sort of like "Schrödinger's cat".

The reason I am more adament about knowing is because I plan on buying the A1 version, mainly for the upgraded webcam and the higher resolution screen (I do alot of programming and having a bigger resolution screen can be very helpful). For the cost of simply upgrading those in the X1, I could get the A1 which includes the gaming mouse, backpack, better CPU, and (possibly) better hard drive configuration.

I agree with you that time will tell, but I need to know if the G50VT is indeed what I will be getting so that I can make plans accordingly.

    Thanks for any help.

Id feel pretty confident in saying the new G50VT probably will have the same keyboard issue as the G50V, unless change changed some part of the hardware.

I agree that the G50 has a teeny bit too many issues. :)

It seems the OP has read the threads discussing the G50 problems, so he/she should be able to form an opinion on whether those problems will affect him/her. Taking into account that it is not necessary they will appear on the OP's laptop (although it is likely).

"Just dont plug in any usb devices and you will be fine."
    should be:
"Just dont plug in any usb devices in the port(s) nearest the headphone output and you will be fine."

For the keylag, you can use the default Windows touchpad driver, that solves the issue -- of course at a loss of some functionality of the touchpad (like edge motion).

For the keyboard combination there is a beta BIOS 207, but it has issues. You are less likely to suffer from this issue though, depending on what games you play.

In some cases, there is also an exaggerated CPU usage problem. That can be solved by disabling a USB controller which people haven't found out yet what it does -- presumably it's not essential, therefore.

That's about it. If you're willing to live with these solutions in case you get the issues, get the laptop. Otherwise, don't. :)
