Recently, my G50 has been unable to boot up regularly from the hard drive. It would try for a few minutes, crash, and boot up again, prompting me to do a reformat and try again.

Naturaly, this would be a last resort. I'd like to see all of my options first. But nothing seems to work. Last known good config nor safe mode can be booted, only slashtop, which I'm on now.

I've done nothing to the hard drive in terms of RAID, though I did do a clean install some time ago.

    Please help. :(

    Two suggestions:

    1. Look through EBE's What to do if pc won't POST in the InfoBooth sticky.

    2. Sometimes the OS can get horribly corrupted by a failed boot, and crash beyond the ability of config/safe mode to bring it back (had it happen recently to Vista on my BILaw's desktop when I was working on a hardware upgrade). If EBE's thread doesn't work I would try to recover the notebook OS install by using the Recovery partition on the HDD - this would bring it back to factory-fresh specs, wiping out all your data, but at least you wouldn't have to RMA it.

You will find that checklist under the Tips and Tricks thread in the Info Booth. But if the notebook boots into Splashtop, then I guess it's not more than the HDD.

First of all, I would suggest you try backing up all your personal data. (there is an item in my Tips and Tricks guide for this). Hopefully the HDD functions well enough for you to do that.

Then, I would recommend that you check the hard drive. Use the SMART test (there is an item in my guide for this, as well). If the HDD has failed, stop here and RMA.

    Else:
You could try the Repair option off a retail Windows disk (if you have one).

If that doesn't rescue the Windows, do a recovery using ClearSkies' suggestion.
