So i'm at my freind's house and we're doing a 16 man lan. I encounter one problem after another, freezing when i try to share a folder, so i tried to reboot and it literally took 10minutes. i set it to a system restore and ni got a black screen, no desktop and it looked like windows 2k. now i've lost internet, cannot even detect wireless and cannot update drivrs or fix them, and it said "cannot access memory" so i'm frantically trying to fix it, but it's a large mess. Any help?

hmmm you said "cannot access memory" sounds like your ram is craping out.

If your ram starts to go bad it will give you alot of data curroption and can do alot of crazy things.

Id take the time to start basic and see what you can do, like boot from a disk and see if you can run memtest86 and see if the ram is dying or dead.

If you cant do that, you may have to try to take out one of the sodimms and try again, then reverse them and try the other.

Or if you dont wanna mess with it, maybe you need to send it back for RMA.

yeah it really sounds like a memory issue, you can try to put good memory in there, or take out the bad one to see if thats the case.

If the ram checks out, try to start the computer if safe mode. If it runs fine there then you have to work through drivers.

Have you removed the bloatware that ships with it?

I've tried everything. When i system restore it never works properly and there's always an error. I cannot update the drivers and the whole thing is just extremely sluggish. I am waiting for a response from Newegg/Asus. I wonder if i'll get it repaired, a new machine, or my money back. I hope this isn't a common problem, cuase this really stinks, and makes Macs all the more appealing.

I think as the others said you have a RAM problem, which is usually rare. Don't start turning into an Apple fanboy quite yet ;) , this RAM could be faulty in any computer.

So did you try Memtest86 like ViciousXUSMC said? That will tell you for sure.

Also, try taking out the RAM and then putting it back in.

I opened up the computer, but i didn't know how to remove the ram, and i don't want to void ym warrenty, and if it's bad ram, i'll just rely on my warrenty to take care of this. Thanks for the help, but it seems that i'm screwed.

I believe the other g1ss your referring to had additional memory added. I’d be curious to know if that was the case here as well.

Just to make sure, I would do a reinstall/reformat with the CD you got with yer G1s. If it still occurs after that, it is definetely the RAM.

EDIT: When removing/adding RAM you wont have to worry bout warranty. Its only when you remove your harddrive and on your CPU. You;ll see there is a sticker that says "Warranty void if removed" on both.

Well, the big problem is that the BIOS is still not a "Santa Rosa" platform. The copyright is 2005 on the BIOS. When Asus releases a BIOS update, we should see a lot of these RAM problems go away.

If you moved your Laptop to the LAN there's a chance your Memory is just loose. Loose memory will give out memory errors in Memtest.

I've been to a lot of LANs where people move their machines and their RAM gets loose and gives them memory errors. It happens though not terribly common.
