About a month ago I purchased an Asus G1s-A1. Everything was working properly until about a week in. After installing anti virus software and a webcam the computer continue to bluescreen until I finally uninstall both softwares. After this incident I got more bluescreen, this time a DRIVER STATE POWER FAILURE. I used window debugger to find out that it was my webcam driver that was causing the computer to crash. So I updated My integrated my webcam driver and it did the trick. Finally after playing unreal tournament 2007 demo for about 10 mins the computer crash. This time it was a 1000008e apparently a memory problem. I already ran memtest86+ for 15 passes and no problem. After this last bluescreen I realize that there was no sound coming out of the speakers. The sound did work with headphone plugged in, and the boom sound did come on during boot up, but no sound was coming out. Tired and frustrated I uninstalled the old audio driver and installed a new one, that didn't work, so I reinstalled the stock audio driver, no go that didn't work either. So I decided to do a system recovery. I put in the recovery disk then the driver disk. Afterward the system booted up, but it took about 9 min to go into the welcome screen, after it restarted once already. After about 5 more min the screen displayed a message saying that window installation has failed. I try all three recover option but to no avail. Good thing I bought warranty with the reseller, know for good service, I am going to take my laptop there to get it replace.

Before that, I suggest you also try a recovery from the HDD. Press F9 at the ASUS splashscreen. It only takes 10-20 minutes and who knows it might save you the trouble of sending it for warranty work.

(Also, your computer is cover by ASUS warranty which is pick up and return so it might be easier to arrange than with the reseller)

Your problems sound like instability (or an unfortunate series of driver and software problems)... if the memory passed the test I can think of one more thing besides hardware issues. Namely, are you undervolting or overclocking either your CPU or GPU?

I don't even know how to undervolt or overclock

Heh then it's safe to say you didn't. :)

What I suggest is you recover from the HDD. See if the computer is stable for a while with the stock settings. If it is, then probably the problem started somewhere else, not with the drivers.

If the audio/webcam/whatever drivers start giving you problems again, remove them and install other versions (even non-ASUS versions, like from the particular devices' manufacturer websites).

Don't install the antivirus that used to cause issues, instead choose another one. Good options are AVGFree and NOD32 (commercial). Like I said, don't install these if they were the cause of some of the earlier problems.

If the problems are not eliminated by this procedure, then you can just send the notebook in.

Or if you feel like not taking the time to do all this, by all means send it in. I'm just suggesting it because it might economize on your time.

well the recovery did work but everything is as before, the audio still doesn't work with the built in speakers. Funny thing is the headphone jack works and the realtek audio control center seem to show that their is sound coming out, and of course the Boom sound in the beginning did come on so the speaker is not at fault.

It really looks like driver issues. I suggest manufacturer's drivers.

If you don't get any more bluescreens, it's still a significant improvement. :)

true the sound is much clearer now, no skipping, and I didn't get a grainy start up screen in the beginning. I have already try realtek audio driver dated January 30 2008. I have also read that it may be a motherboard problem how the speaker gets loose.

k weird I gone to realtek audio manager and just kept clicking buttons and now it works. O well thanks for your help espically telling me about F9, don't know why the recover disk didn't work. Thanks a lot just hope that it doesn't just randomly goes off again.

Yep, driver bugs it seems. Don't click any more stuff in the driver settings, hopefully it stays like that and it works :)

It can't be a disconnected speaker since the POST sound wouldn't play then.

probably the buggy software too. Because the sound is dead after restart, then I do the same procedure to get it to work.

I really don't understand what is going on. The sound seem to work after I go into the realtek audio HD control panel and sliding from the left speaker to the right, while playing the test sound. But if I press mute unmute the sound is gone again.

Ok now I think I know what is going on. Its definitely not a hardware problem. I think the system thinks a headphone jack is plugged in even though its not, that is why no sound comes out of the speakers, and why the realtek notification didn't displayed any messages.

Yep it sounds like faulty driver. It might still be a hardware fault in that headphone sensor though. But I doubt it.
