I'm debating between which one to buy, the G1S-A1 or the V1S-B1. Can anyone comment on which one is better? I understand that the G1S is more targeted for gamers, but looking at their specs, they are almost the same, except that the V1S has a faster processor (2.4) and is much lighter (5.9 lbs).

I'm a bit confused about the video cards, both have the nvidia 8600M GT. Does that mean that both have DDR3?

I'll be using the laptop for work, will be carrying it around a lot, although weight is not such an issue. I'll also use it to game (battlefield, call of duty, fear).

I'll appreciate some advice. Oh, btw, both are around the same price, although the V1S is like 200 bucks more.

    Neither have DDR3. The G1s has GDDR3 and the V1s has DDR2.

How would the two compare in performance?

If the notebook is primarily used for work with the occasional gaming, then go for the V1s. IMO, the G1s's aesthetics is not suitable for a work environment (unless you're working at a small/casual company)

It depends, V1S definitely will suit more business and school applications than the G1S...but this doesn't mean the G1S can't go to work or school. It will definitely stand out, and you will get some looks.

The GDDR3 Vram in the G1S makes a big difference in synthetic benchmarks, not sure about real gaming differences to the DDR2 vram in the V1S.

But regardless for gaming the G1S is the one to get. If you need the features that the V1S offers, like the multi-bay, docking station, spill proof keyboard, fingerprint reader, rotating camera and sleek looks, then u may want to consider it over the G1S.

I would disagree. Turn off the 'green eye' and the side lights and the G1S is fine in a corporate environment.

I was originally going to go with a V1S because I was concerned the G1S looked silly, but I went with the G1S anyway and I'm glad I made that choice. It doesn't look too 'gamey' at all. It looks cool.

My only prob with the G1S is that it looks delicate (my first notebook). I'm afraid to move it :)

I hear alot from the owners of the g1s that it looks more out of place in pictures than it does in person. I can see how it would be ok in most places. Just maybe not that big round table with everybody wearing 1000$ suits kind of place. For that you will probably have a company that gives you a laptop tho.

I would go for the g1s personally, your paying for alot of the stuff the v1s has that are based on the work type area with the docking station and keyboard, when if you go with the g1s your paying for the extra performance.

Honestly as a c90 owner thats my favorite one of them all, I know I would have been happy with a g1s tho if thats what I would have gotten but it costed too much and I liked the upgrade ability of the c90.

How do you turn off the green eye? I have the sidelights disabled, but the only references I found to turning off the eye simply said you could not. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. I was convinced to get the G1S until I started reading other people's comments about how funny it'd look in public, that people would inevitably be looking at it. That's the main reason I'm considering the V1S. On the other hand, even I won't use it mainly for gaming, when I do game I want to enjoy it. So definitely getting the G1S would be the right thing to do. When you mention "delicate", do you mean it can break easily? Can you comment on that?

I agree the c90 is a great deal. The reason I'm not going with it is mainly battery life and weight. Also, it seems difficult to find a retailer who would sell it.

Bear in mind the G1S is my first notebook ever. I'm sure my feeling would apply to any notebook, except for maybe one of those "toughbook" types.

If you disable the finger mouse pad, I recall the green eye gets turned off.
You don't really need that anyway. Get a blue tooth mouse.
