This is the first laptop I've owned since I need to go to University in 2 days, so I'm not very familiar with a few things.

How do I use the recovery DVD to get a clean install?

Afterwards, which drivers should I update/get and from where?

What programs are necessary for a laptop?
Is there a way to turn off the LED lights? The Yellow/Red/Blue combo is blinding.
Is there anything else I should know?

I've tried running a few searched but most people just say "Use the recovery DVD" without the 'how' part.

I first went into bios (F2) and changed it to first boot from DVD drive. Then it will load the disc, follow the instructions. I choose recover to entire disc, or you can pick to have it be in 2 partitions.

Once it does all that it will ask for the driver disk, you can put it in if you want or ignore it and reboot then run it by yourself and do each driver.

I don't know how to turn off those lights, but the directflash blinding green side lights can be turned off in the asus direct console.

After I reboot do I go into bios again to run driver or in the OS itself? Also I may as well ask this now, what the heck is a Fn key for on laptops lol

Edit: I'm getting a setup error after i run the exe on the driver cd.

After installing vista, you'll want to go to the bios and change the first boot back to HD. Then pop in the driver cd and follow metril's procedures here:

This will get your G1S up and running with a nice clean install.

You don't need to change it back, just put it in after it's booted. If the CD doesn't have a boot flag the bios will just ignore it anyway.
