Whenever I run lifeframe the picture from the webcam is always upside down. The previous G1S I had didn't have this problem. Does anyone know how I can correct it?

    Thanks

It looks like a software issue, tinker around the client or control panel would be my suggestion.

Though theres always the possibility ASUS put it upside down during manufacturing :p

I hope it's not an issue of it being upside down. This is my 2nd G1S because the first one died. :(

    A G1S dying!? OMG!

Anyways. You know in LifeFrame there are perspective distortions? I haven't messed around with it and other programs that much, but yeah...

Yeah the first G1S I had for 4 days and it quit working all together. It wouldn't even turn on anymore. I returned it to ASUS and they issued a brand new one (this one). However now i'm running into this webcam issue. I hope it's something simple and I haven't played with the software much. Again the first one didn't have this problem.

    Any other suggestions/help? Thanks

well so far an hour on the phone with tech support and they cannot help :(

They're stumped...go figure. If I have to send in this laptop for another replacement it will be the 3rd G1S in 3 weeks!!! I'm starting to get severely disappointed with ASUS and the G1S.

Here's an odd thing. In lifeframe there is an option to be able to flip an image. However when the tech and I were walking through the steps to get there, he has it on his end, however I cannot find the option on my end. It's the weirdest thing. We went over step by step together many times and at the end, I simply did not have the option to flip the image like he had. He even had me remove and re-install the program several times. Strange...

Here's the latest. The tech sent me an email late last night (actually early in the morning around 2AM) with some additional instructions.

He took a look at a G1S and said that the camera cannot be installed upside down. There is a possibility the camera manufacturer assembled it incorrectly in terms of the sensor however very unlikely and that ASUS would have caught that.

He thinks the control is related to the camera device itself and the LIfeframe SW detects accordingly and sets the parameter. Keep in mind this is the same HDD that I took from the first G1S and installed into the 2nd G1S. The 1st G1S didn't have this problem. Could be that something isn't compatible with this HDD and 2nd laptop?

He recommended that I do a recovery of the C: drive to see if the setting of the utility of the camera flips back. Now it's going to be a PITA re-installing my security SW (i.e. Nod, Spybot, Adaware, yadda yadda)...but if this works...I'm fine with it.

Looks like i'll see tonight..if it doesn't work I guess I'll be RMA'ing another G1S back to ASUS (damn!)

Perhaps its a different version? Did you try grabbing other versions of lifeframe from the ASUS site?

    Coriolis -
Yeah we (the tech and I) tried different versions. I still do not have the option to flip images within the SW while he does. Then again he's not using a G1S (I think only G1) and did mention that he remembers hearing that the G1S doesn't give the option to be able to flip images (strange...)

That's very very weird. It really seems like a software issue. Have you tried different versions of the drivers for the webcam? Perhaps the G1p drivers and software for the camera off their website?

Yes weird indeed. Actually I haven't tried different drivers. I'm new to having a webcam and don't even know how to figure out what current driver I have for it now. I suppose it can't hurt to try it prior to doing a recovery of the C: I just need to figure how to do it (yep I'm a newbie when it comes to installing new drivers for anything)

I just went to the ASUS site to look for camera drivers. Listed there under the G1S are (3):

    1) Chicony_CNF6131
    2) D-MAX_GD-5A35A
    3) Virtual Camera Driver

I'm unsure which one to use? Seems like each pertains to a different area as opposed to just picking one of the three to install. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

I was just talking to my friend on his G1s through MSN Video Call, it worked fine for him.

As for those files, I don't know, sorry. Hopefully someone comes in who does.

What do you mean by "works fine"? Do you mean he doesn't have an issue with his webcam like I do? Or do you mean he has the option to "flip" the image?

    On my first G1S I didn't have this problem what-so-ever..so that's why I'm stumped.

    Thanks for the info!

Actually.. I'm having the same issue. I didn't install any particular drivers, just the Lifeframe program, and when I run it, my picture is also upside down..

if that picture isnt upside down, its lifeframe thats your problem. Otherwise, its something driver/hardware related.

As for those files you posted, the first 2 could be right but Virtual Camera isnt so dont worry about that one.

It may be the driver for the camera. Go into device manager and click on the + for imaging devices then right click on the webcam. To the right of manufacturer should be which manufacturer your camera is. For me it is D-Max. Download the driver for that manufacturer and install it. See if that works.

Thanks. We installed drivers and it didn't work.

I can give that web cam site a try to see if it's SW or HW related. If it is Lifeframe related it's disturbing that it's not working on this particular laptop.

On a side note I'm having more woes with ASUS now. I called last night to RMA the unit back and get it replaced (after countless hours of trying to fix the webcam issue). Now I call back today and they transfer me to some department. The lady proceeds to tell me that since this is the 2nd laptop (original replaced due to dieing on me), that they will not replace this particular one...but to send the laptop in anyway for their techs to verify the problem. Shocked at her statement I asked "so you mean to tell me, if your techs verify the problem (which they will), and you cannot fix it, you won't issue me a new laptop?". I then told her that it's unacceptable for me to be stuck with a broken laptop and I purchased the 1st one 3 weeks ago. All she said was "sorry". She acknowledged that that's what she said. She said since they shipped me a brand new replacement (the one with the kooky webcam) that they will not replace this one. WTF??? I asked to speak to a manager and she said "he's not in". She then put me on hold and came back and told me that someone will call me. Now I'm very upset at this information. I'm hoping this is a situation where she wasn't conveying the message to me correctly.

Mike, thanks! I was having the exact same issue (went to website and still upside down image), but I downloaded the D-max driver, went to device manager and specifically chose the location of the driver and now it works (right side up)! Rep for you! :D

EDIT: well, I woulda given you rep if you hadn't disabled it, but thanks again :)

TRy installing the DMax drivers as CheerfulNut did, maybe they're different than the ones you have?

The first thing I would do would be to try the cam with other programs (skype, aim, yahoo) to see if the image is flipped in those programs too. At least rule out Lifeframe.
