I also use an Antec cooler that I picked up from Circuit City.

I'm not so sure the Antec is best for the G1S. The G1S pulls air from the bottom of the laptop and pushes it out the back so ideally you'll want a cooler that will push air up towards the bottom of the laptop. The Antec pulls air away from the bottom of the laptop, in essence, working against the laptop fan.

Having said that, I have an Antec and it seems to work. I will, however, be getting the Spire Pacific Breeze in a couple of days. I'm curious to see if that works better.

Is a laptop cooler necessary if one isn't intending to overclock or do really intensive gaming? Do I risk shortening my laptop's life by using it 'as is'?
